I think this is the one from the initial dream sequence in Vanilla Sky. And that car… it’s lines, it’s bulbous fenders, it’s stance… PURE SEX.
Heh. I was mistaken. Rick got it first. THAT is the bulbous, pure sex Ferrari I was thinking of.

Yup, the P800 - as driven by The Saint .
P1800 with a rather neat looking fastback model, the 1800ES.
The P1800 ran from 1961 IIRC to 1974, first as a coupe and later as hatchback.
The other thing about a P1800 is that the car with the highest mileage ever is a P1800 owned by a guy named Irv Gordon. Irv has somewhere over 2,400,000 miles on this 1964 P1800.
Here are some P1800 pics including Irv’s
Don’t know if I would put it in the top 25, but very pretty for an everyday driver. Can be a cast iron bitch to work on.
Lovely car, but technically, not a Ferrari.
Well it was listed on that Australian site as a Frearri, and it’s got the badge on the side. It is listed as a Ferrari Dino. Isn’t Dino just a brand of Ferrari or do they count as separate companies? (it seems much closer to Ferrari than RUF is to Porsche)
Just found this new Ferrari 599 GTB . The power and speed of an Enzo, but with a sexy curvy body
The Batmobile, if it’s been waxed and polished.
Ferrari built the Dino as a tribute to his dead son. But originally Dinos had no Ferrari badges; the Dino was supposed to be a separate line, like Lexus. The Ferrari badges you see on them nowadays were added by the owners.
All Fiats are lovely!
Bippy, you read my mind. To me, those are the two most beautiful cars ever built. Both so simple and yet dramatic at the same time. Here’s a pic of my '93 RX-7. As soon as I can get back to the US permanently, my search for my silver Dino will begin.
Bike Rider, high five! Nice to see another FD owner on the board!

Right back atcha. They look great from any angle, don’t they?
It takes a big heart (or very poor eyesight) to find one of these lovely.
That was mentioned in the 150 Worst Cars list. The book said an ad said, 'Wait ‘til you see it from the front!’
Tuckerfan, I know my cars better than my movies (my only experience with Mad Max was watching it on network TV many, many years ago, and I think I got bored and wandered off. So, I couldn’t give you a direct answer off the top of my head, but I did some googling for you, and it appears the answer is no. Falcons featured heavily in the film, but more the standard 70s “Coke bottle” shape, and not the squared-off GTHO.
Here is an index of Mad Max vehicles (The one I think you’re thinking of might be one of the Interceptors).
Here is a pic of a Falcon GTHO. The picture doesn’t do it justice, and I know some Dopers might click on it and think, “Meh. Just another 70s car”, but these things are EXTREMELY impressive in the flesh (and there are quite a few restored/preserved ones on the road today). They sound awesome.
And here’s the Wikipedia page on Australian Falcons 1960-present (and its successful, but slightly chequered, career).
A couple of GTHO anecdotes:
-
The HO part stood for “Handling Option”, which was a tacit way of implying that all Australian cars of the time were crap, and handling was actually something you’d pay extra for, otherwise you’d get a houseboat. Up intil about the late 80s, Aussie metal involved moving the steering wheel constantly to go straight, moving it about five minutes before you wanted to turn, and having spongy suspension and fading brakes.
-
The GTHO series ran through “Phase I” to “Phase III”, with each getting more and more insanely fast. When Ford announced "Phase “IV”, the government - by now in the early days of getting serious about road safety - quietly took Ford Australia aside, and said, “Look, those cars are going to be street legal, and we can’t stop you building them if you really want to, but bear in mind you are the largest supplier of vehicles to the federal government fleet, and if you release this car, then we just might be giving Holden (GM) a call.” The Phase IV was never released.
Saw one on the freeway this afternoon. I didn’t get a good look at it, since I was going about twice as fast as he; but I’ve always thought it was a very nice looking car.
While I will admit that the various vehicles mentioned so far are quite attractive by many standards, for me, there is but one true car . I can imagine no series more lovely, beautiful, or sensual.
But then, I’m a weirdo with a penchant for British cars, so…
