It looks like the debate did fail to help McCain as has going negative so far.
I have been tracking the election on RealClearPolitics which gives and aggragate of the major polls and a great break down of the electoral map.
Obama/Biden 277 (121 Solid 56 Leaning)
McCain/Palin 163 ( 143 Solid 20 Leaning)
Toss Up 98
This is the first time Obama has more electoral votes than McCain’s + the Toss Ups.
NationallyObama still only has a 5.6 lead but his Electoral vote lead is now huge.
Apparently Oliver, the young man who asked about the bailout and was told that he probably had never heard of Fannie/Freddie, had heard of Fannie/Freddie and is a little annoyed about it.
Thanks for the poll stats, What Exit?. I’ve been keeping track via the extraordinarily detailed daily journal posts of a poster over on Democratic Underground – tracking 538.com, Electoral-Vote.com, Intrade, RealClear, and so on. But it’s also great to see more numbers focusing on different areas.
Yep, and justifiably so. MSNBC tried to get in touch with him for a response, but Oliver posted a sort of FAQ re: his experience on his Facebook page, and so MSNBC published his words instead. (They didn’t link directly to his Facebook – not sure why, unless it was to protect him from the inevitable negative attention from vicious McCain/Palin fans.)
Oh please this is just silliness. It was clear to anyone watching that McCain was responding to the viewers in general and not making offensive assumptions about the particular audience member. And what he said was true - Fannie Mae wasn’t on the radar of the average American before the crisis. If you’re so smart that you knew all about FM before anyone else, Oliver, why don’t you run for president?
I don’t blame McCain’s answer to that question on anything racial, but it was a patronizing response. If that had been the first time he had talked to someone like a child, I would say that dude was right to be offended, but of course it isn’t. Hell, half his speech at the RNC was delivered in a way my three-year-old would find condescending. Of course, the toolboxes there ate it up.
My opponent wants to RAISE taxes. (boooooo) I want to LOWER taxes. (yaaaay)
I can’t fathom anyone reading Oliver’s statements and coming to such an extraordinary response as this one, thinking that Oliver is somehow “uppity” with his fancy knowledge of major financial institutions that own millions of mortgages (perhaps his own). McCain’s comment was mildly condescending, but your response is way off the chart.
I’d just like to recap this to make sure I’ve got it right.
The first debate was supposed to be on foreign policy and was allegedly playing to a McCain strength. Obama won voters over, in particular being perceived as more Presidential.
The second debate had a format that was supposed to be McCain’s strength. And again the instapolls and the pre to post debate polls showed Obama grabbing up more support.
The third debate is coming and is the one format/subject that is supposed to favor Obama.
I can understand why McCain supporters are so frustrated and angry!
Meh. Oliver was a whiny bitch, pure and simple. The “Town Hall” structure was artificial, and McCain wasn’t responding to Oliver directly. For Oliver to take his response personally was ridiculous. And I say this as an Obama supporter.
