The 4400 is on Netflix.

I’m very happy about this. I can’t remember why, but I never got around to watching this show when it originally aired. I just (vaguely) remember watching the first couple of episodes and that was it.

So what’s the consensus on this show? Any fans out there?

It started off really good, intriguing premise, then went way downhill as the writers didn’t know where to go with it. If I remember, it ended with lots of loose ends still loose.

Yeah, I really liked it at the beginning and it just kind of fizzled out. I don’t remember if I even bothered watching the final episodes.

Same here. The first season, which was originally intended to be a miniseries but got picked up, was really good! After that, not so much.

My wife and I watched up up through season 3. I thought the first 2 seasons were pretty decent but the 3rd one had some significant shark jumpery to it. What started out as a good (but not spectacular) show about what would happen if 4400 people suddenly popped up from all over time with weird new abilities seemed to devolve a bit and collapse under its own attempt to build its mythos.

Ah, okay, another program about people with “abilities.” Thanks, but no thanks.

Yes and no. The first season is really about where these people suddenly came from and what to do with them. “Abilities” don’t come into it until about halfway through, then it’s about what to do with them, where they came from, and what happened to them. It’s the second season that really pushes the “ability of the week” format.

I do recall a couple interesting abilities of the week: the florist and the vigilante. The latter thought he was immortal. It didn’t turn out well.

I rather enjoyed it. While they could have gone on more from where it ended, the ending wasn’t totally unsatisfying as you could extrapolate yourself where things were going.

I was a fan, and I own the 1st two seasons. I was super excited to add it to my Netflix queue as I’m not sure if I’ve even seen the 3rd and 4th.

It’s a bit better than some of the SyFy series. But it does have a Magic Baby storyline, which commits the usual sins of such storylines. On the other hand, it does have Billy Campbell; he’s cool. And on the gripping hand, it has Weepy Dad.

I’m not sure whether Weepy Dad was awesome or annoying for breaking out the waterworks whenever his son came into the plotline.
