IIRC, the guy who called the TD didn’t even see the play well and the line judge was right on top of it and just sat back and said nothing. Shouldn’t the guy who called the TD wait for the line judge to make a signal there?
Maybe I’m misremembering the detail of who signalled first.
Anyway, yeah, thank your luck for having the refs go your way … it only happens once in a… quarter or so.
OK, so now you want to test my graciousness and goodwill with this nonsense? I give an inch and you take a mile. The Steelers have gotten jobbed at least twice, in the playoffs, no less, in recent memory. But they get all the calls? Uh huh.
That the Browns are a good team. It doesn’t seem like the sort of thing you’d say, especially after one game, but then again it’d be a weird thing to be sarcastic about after they just decisively beat the reigning champs.
Why should you? When a team fumbles into the end-zone it is either a touch-back or touchdown or, at the other end, a safety or a touchdown. The result can never be the offensive team retaining possession in scoring position. Is there a provision in NFL rules that allows the referee to create this fantasy scenario?
I agree that “it’s a fumble, but it goes back to where it was fumbled cause who the fuck knows what happened” is a weird result. Does it have precedent?
I’m told (haven’t watched it again yet) that the ref sitting right on top of the play sort of looked confused/indecisive about the call, and a guy from across the field was the one who came running in to call the TD. Once you signal TD, that genie is pretty much out of the bottle and you can’t go back on it, so why not have the guy across the field defer to the guy that’s right there? Seems like really inappropriate jumping the gun.
I need to see it again to be sure - I may not have my interpretation straight.
I didn’t get to see the whole game but I didn’t like what I saw. I won’t comment on the blown call since everyone has covered it well.
What worries me is seeing Aaron Smith go off with his arm wrapped. It looks like a torn bicep or tricep and that will likely mean we’ve seen his last game. Ziggy Hood will have to step up, he’s been playing with an ankle injury. Hopefully he’s ready. Nick Eason has been surprisingly good off the bench so far. He should take over the starting job if things are as bad as they appear to be.
Another troubling loss will be Woodley if his hamstring is dinged up but that’s surmountable at least. We have a lot of depth at linebacker.
Well then yeah, it’s pretty stupid to make fun of a team for decisively beating the reigning champs. Especially when you specifically said they couldn’t dream of even competing with them.
That’s why they call it a shocker. Congrats on the win, but being so bad that people overlook you isn’t much to be proud of. You’re 2 and 5 - how can you call that anything but crap?
It will be huge if he’s out. Hopefully someone will step up better than last season.
I know the referees botched the call and all that but I’m surprised Ben even tried to dive in from way out there. The defender wasn’t in position to stop him, why didn’t he just put his head down and bull his way in?
The Saints, who’ve had a lot of close games this year, decided it wasn’t worth it to try to beat the Browns, where all but one of their games came down to the last drive of the game? Come on.
You not only said the Browns couldn’t beat the Saints, but they couldn’t even dream of keeping it close. And not only did the Browns win - they stomped them. The final score (30-17) was closer than the game because of some garbage time TDs. It was the exact opposite of your prediction. So instead of making up excuses about how the Saints didn’t bother to try against a team that’s been competitive in all but one game, you should just eat your crow. EAT IT!
The Browns are better than their 2-5 record. They lost the TB game after leading until the final minute, they lost to the Chiefs by 2 points on a fourt quarter field goal, they were driving for the winning score on the last drive of the game against Atlanta, and Baltimore was a 3 point game until the last minute TD. They were in every game until the last minute, and a bounce here or there goes a different way and they’re 4-3 or 5-2. I’m not saying they’re great but they’re better than their 2-5 record. They aren’t a team that Saints would overlook, so your excuses about living up to your prediction are lame.
You’re silly. Let’s put it this way. Either this was a bit of a fluke, with the Saints playing down to a crap team, or it was not, and the Browns are a good team who’s just had some bad breaks.
If I’m right, the Browns should end up with a sub .500 record. If you’re right, the breaks should even out over the course of the season, and the Browns will end up with a winning record.
I predict they’ll end up sub .500. Are you ready to predict that they won’t?
