“Maybe from Trump’s point of view, creating delay and chaos is always a plus, but this has the feel of a giant backfire,” said Peter M. Shane, a legal scholar in residence at New York University and a specialist in separation-of-powers law.

An appeals court ruling last week and a letter the Justice Department filed late Tuesday about subsequent complaints his legal team has apparently filed under seal to Judge Dearie suggest that the upsides to obtaining a special master are eroding and the disadvantages swelling.
A lawyer for Mr. Trump did not respond to a request for comment.

Judge Aileen Cannon’s wiped away an earlier decision from the outsider arbiter — known as a “special master” — she herself had appointed to review the more than 11,000 documents retrieved from Mar-Lago during an August 8 search of Trump’s residence and private club in West Palm Beach. That special master, [Senior Judge Raymond Dearie] had ordered Trump’s lawyers to address by October 7 whether they contested the completeness and accuracy of the FBI’s inventory of records discovered during the search.
In a six-page ruling, Cannon said her order appointing Dearie “did not contemplate that obligation” for Trump’s lawyers and the former president, who has repeatedly claimed without evidence that the FBI planted some of the highly-sensitive documents seized from Mar-a-Lago.
Why hasn’t the 11th Circuit Court thrown a bridle onto this nag??

- Is she on solid legal ground with overruling Dearie’s order to put up or shut up?
- What is the status of the full appeal to the 11th Circuit?
- If the 11th finds in favor of the DOJ does the whole SM just go away?
I’m guessing that the SM is in an advisory role only so Cannon can do whatever she wants regarding his actions/orders. Which makes #s 3 & 4 important.

My understanding as a layperson is that Loose Cannon’s order for a special master allows her to overrule Dearie or pull him and install someone else.

How can T be allowed to file this whole complaint thing and then be like “I don’t have to actually make any claims in court, just in front of cameras!”?
They may not care. He can stall all he wants in his civil case. It no longer impacts the criminal investigation. If/when he is charged, none of this matters.
I guess I’m just sick of seeing T make BS claims that are 100% nonsense and then a judge or Congress or the GOP can’t/won’t ever slap him down. He runs around on TV and social media crying persecution!!111
