Oh man, is this juicy. Donald Trump’s New Jersey golf club settled that sexual harassment suit, but the settlement included an interesting line.
The four-page settlement, which Bianco signed on March 4, reads like a total win for the angered ex-employee. She gets to keep the measly $15,000 hush money payment she received in 2021 for keeping quiet about the way a supervisor repeatedly intimidated her and pressured her to sleep with him. Her attorney gets $82,500 for briefly litigating the case. Both sides can rip up the one-sided NDA. And the club doesn’t admit it “committed fraud to induce” her into a shady deal.
But then comes this line out of nowhere: “The parties agree that Alina Habba is not a party to this release.” That means Habba was specifically cut out of the deal, allowing Bianco to sue her directly for the exact same issues.
Where does this idea come from that Habba is “pretty”? Admittedly, it can be difficult to disentangle perception of appearance from what you know of a person’s character, but to me she looks like a stunned camel. And is also dumb as a post. She and Trump deserve each other.
Probably the same place the idea Trump is charismatic. I don’t get it either. Speaking of perception of beauty, I can’t believe that for the last three days, my Xitter feed has been swamped with magatflatearthers posting that Melania Trump is, and I quote, “the most beautiful First Lady in our history”.
I’m a guy, she’s attractive, well dressed (sometimes a bit ‘down’). Search for her images.
Back to the thread - she and Don the Con lost their appeal of legal fees in a bogus suit against Hillary Clinton and others.
“She was fined along with the former president in January 2023 for bringing a frivolous lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and other political rivals. The ruling required Habba and Trump to pay nearly $938,000 to the defendants in the case.Feb 2, 2024”
She reminds me of a particular girl I knew in high school. Superficially attractive, if you were seeing a photo of her or just met her for the first time she’s appealing. Until you get to know her at all, and suddenly that all goes away.
Now, in addition to the likelihood that she’ll be sued into oblivion (and I’d love it if she tried to defend herself) but I still wonder how long she’ll hang onto her law license.
The article below from Meidas Touch is a good read; it’s subtitled “Trump attorney building the case for her own disbarment”. It also includes this fine picture which I call “when appearance matches character”. If the pose looks oddly Trumpian, it’s because Trump is often caught in poses just like that, thus proving that if you’re a piece of shit, you often end up looking like one.
Habba yelled at the camera, “And the numbers don’t lie when President Trump runs for office in 2024. And those numbers are loud and clear. This country is falling apart.”
Clearly, a ‘stopped watch’/‘blind pig’ type situation.
We talked about disbarment in my “Professional Ethics” class at law school. We also talked about it in the bar courses I took, and in the bar exams I had to write.
If Ms. Habba’s legal education was anything like mine, then she has only herself to blame if she is disbarred. It’s easy enough to avoid: you just act professionally and ethically, and you never run into trouble. Of course, it helps if you never take a grifter and a con man on as a client, but there you go.
Always act professionally and ethically, and you’ll keep your license. It’s just that easy.
As you suggest, it’s impossible to act professionally and ethically and continue working for Trump. That’s not a defense of Habba or any of Trump’s lackeys, some of whom have done, or are doing, jail time. An ethical lawyer would never work for Trump, as indeed I’m sure many have refused to do.
And if they’d want to get paid in real money, not NFTs or exposure. And by this time, just working for him will put a reputational mark on a lawyer that only certain people would seek him out.
There are cites upthread that she collected real money, a good chunk of it paid by PACs. I suspect that a long trail of stiffed lawyers resulted in some kind of mechanism to ensure payment.
Separately, I’d note that she’s still working for him! For some reason I thought they had parted ways, but no.
I think you are forgetting the overwhelming success of the “Be Best” campaign she led, which caused millions of Americans to stop their behaviour of bullying people online, including that of her husband…
Personal pet peeve-what’s wrong with marrying for money? Not calling you out, just the general idea that it’s somehow bad. As long as there’s some affection between the partners and any kids. Obviously I don’t think Melania is happy, but hopefully, she’s at least being a good mom to Barron.
Well, for one, it’s harder for society to move away from the old concept of wives being their husbands’ property when some men are literally buying them.
Oh for sure. Just as long as everyone agrees that the person is mainly interested in their partner’s money/position is what is happening, it’s fine. Not what you describe, of course.
Disagree. It’s like a marriage for a green card in my mind. As long as the two people like each other, what’s the harm? But this is getting off of the subject of Alina Habba .
