The Amazing Race 11/11/07 - "I've Become the Archie Bunker of the Home"

SNORT! That was hilarious!

from Carissa’s blog

After watching the whole episode I’m hoping next week turns into Throw Daddy from the Train. Ronald is abrasive…

Have to give a shout out to the cameraman for the great shot of Phil as Rachel and TK biked right past him.

As a race, this is getting very entertaining. In leg 1, we had an animal-handling task. In leg 2, we have bog-vaulting, with many people getting down and dirty. And the previews show leg 3 will have our favorite animals, camels! Because any animal-handling task is more fun when it involves camels.

As noted on the previous page, one of the most vital guidelines for running The Race is to never take the random-search task if you don’t have to. Next week is almost begging to trigger another guideline, never take the animal-handling task if you don’t have to. Although my quick guess is that the Roadblock is to milk a camel, and a Detour option is to lead four camels to a “camel merchant” (an underpaid local).

I suggested the same thing!

I had to catch up on two episodes before I could join in, but I’m all current now.

I don’t think much more needs to be said about Ronald, does it? Although he also struck me as the type that is quick to “let her figure it out” because that way he never has to take the blame for anything. Even when they got to the bike thing, it was her fault for being too heavy, not his for not being able to do the task.

Although I’m sure nobody really wants to go back and watch that scene again, but did NNG actually have a larger pair of briefs on at the end of the task? When he first stripped down he looked like he was in some sort of male thong, then right at the end he was in something more like boxer/briefs.

Otto to keep everyone cool, maybe you can find that standard reality show disclaimer that is on a bunch of these threads and post it with the OP? You know…the one that sort of goes over the accepted rules. I’ll see if I can find it and maybe post it here so someone can just copy and paste it for next week.

Ahh…it’s actually from the Lost threads.

Thread rules:

Although I changed it a little to reflect the general aversion to preview scenes here.

Thanks to John Mace for the template.

Is there a general aversion to preview scenes in Amazing Race threads?

You would think they would notice a guy with a camera standing by the side of the road with it pointed toward the other side.

Apparently so. Earlier in the thread, Otto described himself as “pissed” and requested spoiler boxes because someone described a scene from the previews of next week’s episode.

One particular preview has been mentioned with great anticipation over and over again in this thread, without Otto or anyone else becoming upset. I fail to see what was so different about that one post.

The spoilers in question were noted as coming from cbs.com and not from the previews for next week. The same level of detail may have been in the previews, I don’t know as I didn’t happen to see them. I have no quarrel with information that’s been broadcast but if it comes from somewhere other than the broadcast it should be spoilered.

It seems a little like splitting hairs to me if it’s promotional material from the website vs. the previews after the show, but I have noted that it’s the policy here.

That’s what I thought. I didn’t remember anyone ever complaining about previews, and you didn’t.

Obviously, I misunderstood. I didn’t realize there was a difference.

Missed the edit window. The reason I found it confusing is that** Otto** referred to Averie537’s post as containing “spoilers,” but he was using the word to mean something I’ve never understood it to mean before, in reference to promotional information from the network.

Hey…shrug…it’s no skin off my back. Just trying to give a general guideline that could be posted at the start of each thread so that we’re all on the same page. Whatever you guys wanna do.

Well, if you look my original post, I mention that it was something I thought I saw on the promo/preview/teaser for Next Week’s Episode (therefore broadcast), and I went to the website to confirm what I thought I had seen. So how does that hair get split?

I agree, I’m not trying to start a fight by any means. Whatever the policy is, I’ll abide by it happily. I just thought it was a little extreme of Otto to be pissed about Averie’s post when 1) the policy wasn’t posted in the thread, and 2) he’s using a definition of “spoiler” that is not typical.
