The Amazing Race 11/13/11

No thread yet?

I am well pleased with the outcome. She’s bloody useless, eh, Laurence? I think *you’re *bloody useless!

I want to do bunny steeplechase.

Hell, we need one of the ESPN channels to run bunny steeplechase events.

I know! This was one instance where the “avoid the animals” rule didn’t really hold true.

I was really irritated at the beginning when Cindy said something about “We had first place stolen from us.” No, you made a big error not using the U-turn when you had the chance. I was also rather nonplussed when Marcus was certain that no other teams would try to get an earlier flight to Copenhagen.

Following the leg on Google Maps I noticed that you can “walk” through the grounds of the Frilandsmuseet on Street View. Here’s the link to the museum itself.

RE Zac and Laurence, I can’t remember another Father-Son situation where the middle-aged dad acted like a spoiled, whiny, petulant child and the teenaged son acted with poise, dignity and maturity far beyond his years. I wonder if Zac was mostly raised by his Mother?

Seriously, Laurence was a whiny little bitch throughout the going, had the balls to tell the world that he would have done a better job at the dance detour than his kid did, (it seems like he said something similar at a couple of other tasks as well) cried about getting U-Turned after he attempted to U-Turn another team earlier in the action, and then got them lost at the end of the Race, ultimately getting them eliminated.

Also , I never noticed Sandy too much before now (attractive yet generic blonde woman) but Sweet Holy Mollyfock, did she ever look HOTT after getting her Medieval Makeover for the dancing task…

Laurence and Zac were racing on borrowed time, U-turn. If they hadn’t been U-turned, they would have crashed and burned sooner rather than later.

I’m not holding out much hope for Jeremy and Sandy. They’ve been very extremely lucky the last couple of legs.

Amani and Marcus? Get your heads out of your asses. You CAN do this! Presuming everyone would catch the morning flight?!?!? Hello?!?!?

I’m really beginning to gun for Bill and Cathi

There sure are a lot of major mistakes being made this season. Just in this episode, Amani and Marcus made a huge mistake and should have lost, except for the two huge mistakes made by Jeremy and Sandy, who should have lost except for a huge mistake by Zac and Lawrence, who lost two hours of time on a seven mile car ride.

Bill and Cathi totally rock.

I am glad Laurence is gone. Disliked him from the first episode.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like Marcus and Amani? They are sucky racers and quite dumb over and over again.

I love me some Bill and Cathi! They did both legs of the U-turn and still managed to come in second without too much trouble.

And, yeah, there needs to be more bunny steeplechase on TV.

I think the Bunny Steeple-chase is why there was a Double U-turn in this episode.

To give it a better chance of being done.

Imagine if everyone used the “Avoid the animal” rule, and no double u-turn. We would not have seen it!!

this was a better episode for the double u-turn, but I still don’t like it at the end of a leg.

Cutest thing ever, but any aficionado could tell you that was show jumping, not steeplechase.

Yeah, I think there’s probably a pretty strong consensus on who’ll make it to the final 3.

No kidding. Great leg for the two of them. They also used the U-Turn correctly.

Almost everyone else made really odd mistakes -
I don’t see why Ernie did the dance, instead of Cindy. Unless she’s truly choreography impaired, they should still want him for strength work. And they used the U-Turn stupidly.

Zac and Lawrence also made the “don’t get on an airplane alone” mistake. It ended up working for them. But it’s a bad idea at this point of the race, if your flight goes horribly wrong, you should want another team there with you, equally as horribly wrong.

Jeremy and Sandy got really, really lucky.

Marcus and Imani didn’t even try for a better flight, then they got lost and didn’t want to ask for directions. Normally, that’s how teams lose races.

Bill and Cathi even beat my snowboarders, who ran a correct, if unexceptional leg. And personally, I think all of Cindy’s butter should’ve been thrown out after that awful black thing she picked out of her mold.

Poor Zac, stuck with such a father.

Yeah, that was absolutely the most self-destructive leg I’ve ever seen this late in the race.*

*this from someone who doesn’t remember the details of last week, let alone last season, let alone S1 or S2.

He said the same thing when Zac was doing the “reassemble the model temple” Roadblock in Thailand(?), after he scoffed at Zac’s idea of writing down what the temple looked like before they took it apart. He claimed he would have had no problem putting the thing back together from memory, and it was a shame it was taking Zac so long. Note that no team completed the task without either taking notes ahead of time, or taking a cab back to the sample to examine it again.

Why was it correct for Cathi & Bill to U-turn the team directly behind them, but stupid for Ernie & Cindy to do the same? There’s no way to know who is ahead of you & who is behind you except for who you see while racing, so U-turning the team you saw behind you most recently is optimal strategy.

And I believe you’ve got to select the racer for a Roadblock based on the not particularly helpful clue, and you’re stuck with it. That’s why we’ve seen plenty of people scared of heights wind up doing the bungee or rappelling Roadblock over the seasons. “Who’s ready to take a step back in time” doesn’t scream “Dancing Task!” to me.

Bill cracks me up: “I’ll call you Speckles!”

I loved Marcus giving his bunny a little pep talk before the race.

I was surprised at how high the bunnies could jump vertically. They’re sort of horizontal animals. I saw those high oxers and thought “there’s no way!”. The bunnies did seem to enjoy it.

Marcus and Amani deserved to lose this leg, just for not even looking for better flights from the airport. Huge error. Plus, wtf is with refusing to ask for directions when you’re in a race?

Also, two weeks in a row now that Cindy and Eric have wasted a strategic advantage. Last week they wasted their Express Pass in a futile attempt to come in first place. This week they U-turned a second place team (Bill and Cathi) which had absolutely no affect. It made no difference in finishing order, except that it prompted B&C to use the other U-turn on Laurence and Zac.

Using the U-turn didn’t hurt them, but it didn’t do anything to help and it burns bridges with Bill & Cathi unnecessarily.

I’m glad to see Laurence and Zac go – well Laurence anyway – but those last three teams all really raced terribly this week. I don’t think B&C can win the race, but they’ve got to be favorites to reach the F3. They’re so adorable.
