The Amazing Race 11/6/11: "Move Goat"

Looks like we’re on schedule, since CBS didn’t have a late game today.

The title of this episode fills me with joy.

Well there’s a 30+ minute delay in the DC area. I went to watch it at 8 and found 60 minutes still on. Damn football.

I don’t have my clue, so I don’t know what to do, so I will do nothing.

She might as well have drawn chalk circles around the kids, as that would have been just has constructive.

I’m sorry, Cindy, that wasn’t mean. It’s called “The Amazing Race” not, “The Amazing Let-Someone-Else-Win.”

Jennifer: Seriously? You don’t know what the clue (which your brother has back at the bus station) says so you just…stand there and WAIT? At worst, you needed to see what the clue said. The clue is back at the bus station. So you go back to the bus station. It would have probably taken less time to go back and check even if you had to go back to the drop-off to do something. How long did she stand there?

Lawrence: You U-Turn the team YOU JUST PASSED NOT A MINUTE BEFORE, GOING AWAY FROM THE U-TURN STATION?! I have one word: DUH!

ETA: And I’ll admit that I’m a little upset that the really cute guy who JUST TOLD US HE’S GAY gets eliminated in the same episode. I know it really doesn’t make any difference, but knowing he’s at least theoretically accessible makes him a little cuter to me. And now he’s off my screen until we get his wordless clapping cameo at the finish line.

Yeah, that was seriously wrong.

Ernie and Cindy’s failure to use the U-turn was worse, IMO.

Oh, yeah. They KNEW the snowboarders were right behind. They really should have U-turned them. That’s what the damn thing’s FOR!

How’d they leave the overnight park by cab and then take a two hour bus ride on just one dollar?

I think Cindy said something about not using it because that would be mean, or not in the spirit of the game. She’s officially a moron.

They get to keep the money from previous legs they didn’t have to spend, so most of the teams probably had more than just the dollar.

I honestly am not sure why I have this reaction (I am 41 years old, and I have NEVER been in a physical fight in my entire life) but for some reason, I think that if I ever met Laurence, I would hit him as hard as I could square in his face.

His son seems like a wonderful young man, by the way…

Go Snowboarders! Way to power through and whup Cindy and Ernie!

I loved watching the grandma easily do the bike challenge while Marcus was struggling. And they worked so well together in the canoe. So lovely. I wish I had what they have.

Those are officially my two favorite teams. Laurance deserves to have to race with Flo.

StG

Marcus struggled in the bike detour? They were dead last and had to do a puzzle first and by the end of the detour they were ahead of two teams (I think). He rocked that detour.

Roadblock.

Lamar Mundane - I thought he was huffing and puffing while biking, after they said he’d trained on bikes with weights in prep for the race.

StG

Huffing and puffing is how you should be after a bike race.

Well, he had enough breath left to mention his NFL career at least 4 separate times this episode alone…

Agreed. ‘The women should be able to pass us at the sewing’ ‘Why aren’t you sewing?’ ‘Women should do the sewing’ ugh.

Fuck you Laurence, I’m a woman, I sew (and could possible have whizzed through the detour once I got the hang of the different machine) and I still want to hit you.

That speed bump seemed a little slapdash to me. I mean, a slide puzzle of the current country’s flag only works in…every place on earth. I like speed bumps that feel planned put before the race even started, like the elephant washing.

Hate hate hate having a U-Turn where one of the roadblocks (or detours; whatever) is strength-based. While I imagine the grandparents could probably have pulled off the unloading task if they absolutely had to, no chance in hell the little blonde twins could have if they were still in the race. That’s bad race design.

Speaking of the grandparents, they are far and away my favorites right now. Was happy to see the bickering siblings go.

I laughed at Ernie & Cindy complaining about how racing is mean, but definitely disagree that they should have used the U-Turn on the guys. That engenders ill will, and you may need to team up with them at some point in the next few legs. (Remember the statue counting task.) With zero chance of getting eliminated, using the U-Turn there would have been foolish. As was wasting their Express Pass, for the same reason. They were never remotely in danger of hitting the mat last. Wanting to win a leg just for morale is a shitty reason to throw away an Express Pass.
