The Amazing Race 11/2 - Does anybody read thread titles?

This week’s Race episode is already half over, and nobody started the thread.

Who’s watching it with me? And who thinks that Terrence and Tina should team up?

It started late here on the East Coast, at least in Michigan, anyway.

It’s on about a 15 minute delay. How long did that spray painting of the car take?

Based on how much the order changed, it seems to me that masking and painting the car took a very long time. It’s hard to tell until we see next episode’s start times.

But as I recall, the plane was supposed to land around 4:15 PM, which means they should have left the airport around 5 or so.

Anyone else catch Tina ask, “sí?” twice while in India?

Spoiling since this may be on the first screen length west coasters open.
Heavy work gloves might be the smartest thing I’ve ever seen come out of a team’s pack. It’s one of those things that make sense but no one has done before. I suspect they’ll be carted around the world by every team starting with the next race.

The divorcees continue their reign of stupidity but at this point I kind of want them to hang in there for a while longer. We all know they’re dead meat but I want to see what insane thing comes out of their mouth next.

I called the non-elimination leg early on. The Ken and Tina breakdown was weak but hopefully they’ll explode next time.
My cable is out. Recap?

She must have gone to the Mirna and Charla School of Foreign Language.

The teams went straight to New Delhi where they went to a cab company where there was a roadblock to paint some vehicles. From there they raced to a hotel where they were directed to a detour where they either used a heavy old fashioned iron to do laundry or had to get a certain specific mix of rupee bills for a wedding necklace. Nick and Starr came in first mainly due to the fact that they did everything pretty much perfectly. Ken and Tina started bickering a bit and managed to come in last but it was non-elimination.

The only really notable lunacy was when the wind came up and blew away the frat boy’s half completed laundry.

It was a very dark leg since they left Cambodia in the night, arrived in India at sundown, and all the tasks were done in the dark.

It might have been the weakest episode of this season so far (except maybe that second leg with the pointless wall challenge) but since we’ve had a fairly strong season it wasn’t that bad. The teams mainly split apart in the taxi rides and there wasn’t much drama in the challenges.

Wow, the star of the show must have been Starr’s sweaty sweater puppies. And I just realized if she married the Incredible Hunk, she would be Starr Spangler-Banner.

:stuck_out_tongue:

And, yeah, Starr was looking mighty fine. It was kinda funny when Nick was telling the camera about the divorcees’ poor choice of short-shorts for India while he’s sitting next to Starr in her low-cut, midriff-baring, spandex top.

A non-elimination leg. Quelle surprise.

Taxi Assessment

Stuck in the Desert and Officially Detained - or, Philiminated with extreme prejudice.
Anita and Arthur - Keeping bees.
Anthony and Stephanie - Not getting married. Bummer.
Mark and Bill - Rolling 2d10 to cast a spell of Readthecluedammit.
Marisa and Brooke - Ineptly and slowly doing something.
Aja and Ty - Dating long-distance from opposite ends of Sequesterville.

Flat Tire - or, not likely to get anywhere soon.
Andrew and Dan (holding steady) - Still the worst team left. They were briefly in first, and immediately fumbled the lead away looking for a taxi. I can understand getting all weepy about not being able to scale a sheer cliff or something, but ironing, for God’s sake? Is there any task in the world that is more totally not rocket science? Plus, I note Andrew has now performed 4/5 Roadblocks, which will be a problem if they actually survive the next leg.

Stopping for Gas - or, not broken-down, exactly, but not a good sign.
Kelly and Christy (holding steady) - A good episode for this team, but I still have little faith in their long-term viability.
Ken and Tina (down from "Cruisin’) - Did I say Ken & Tina were the team to beat? Whoops; I meant “the team to get beaten.” Just what this team’s fate is depends on how the next leg is laid out–with half a chance, they might cruise through an extra task and come out on top, in which case I’ll move tham back up in the rankings next week. To be fair, their downfall this week was getting bad taxi drivers…but to be scrupulously fair, why the Hell would you ask the Worst Taxi Driver in the World to wait for you instead of getting another taxi? Sheesh, I never expected to see Stockholm Syndrome acted out on TAR. Also, you morons, the Race isn’t a metaphor for your marriage any more than a soft zone prevent defense is a metaphor for your marriage. Quite a bit less, actually.

"Rapido! Por Favor?" - or, making meaningless ineffectual comments from the back seat, but in no immediate danger.
Toni and Dallas (holding steady) - Hmmm…Nick & Starr look like a lock for final three. The Amazing Editors are playing up a romance between Dallas and Starr. Will this romance be cut short due to a premature exit by Toni & Dallas? I think not. With Terence & Sara and now Ken & Tina tempting the gods of TAR to strike them down for being overemotional yutzes, Toni & Dallas’s long-term prospects are looking much better. And…“you’ve got fire on our head.” Hee hee. I’d’ve said the same thing, because who doesn’t like pointing out the obvious?

In the Passing Lane - or, ahead of the pack, but not quite comfortably.
Terence and Sarah (holding steady) - I wonder about the Detour options this week. My first gut reaction was that the ironing task was easier (or at least more certain), but I’ll note that Terence & Sarah, despite trailing Andrew & Dan at the start of the task, beat them to the Mat. Was the money task actually quicker, or are Andrew & Dan just bumbling fools? (Consider the ‘inclusive or’ function when answering this question.) In any case, Terence needs to learn when to back off in “supporting” Sarah (like that wasn’t obvious weeks ago). At this point, Sarah just has to hope that TAR pulls a Survivor-style realignment, and Terence has to race with Tina, and Dallas races with Starr, and Sarah gets Nick or something (I seem not to be alone in having this thought). Kidding aside, despite the dysfunctionality of this relationship, Terence & Sarah natably pulled themselves out of last place to finish fourth (which is actually their worst finish to date). Despite their problems, they seem to be performing.

Cruisin’ with Earl - or, drivin’ on the shoulder, takin’ shortcuts, and generally kickin’ butt.
Nick and Starr (up from “Passing”) - This team has been clicking lately, and with Ken & Tina one Botox injection away from implosion, their chances of making the final three look very good.

Next week: Ohboyohboyohboyohboy. Villagers randomly throwing shit at the Racers! They should do this EVERY episode. This is gonna be AWESOME!

[sub]Props to Mullinator and his Raj Ratings.[/sub]

The previews look like a much messier version of the tomato-throwing festival in Spain a couple of seasons ago. Wonder what the context is?

And the Amazing Hats continues…Dallas was right. This one was “insane”, for sufficiently positive definitions of “insane”. Again, I know more than a couple of people who were probably making design notes on that hat.

My gut says that the necklace would be faster for a team that was clever, prepared for it on the run and within the party, and was willing to pay for the privilege of getting change. I suspect that what happened is they made this a cash poor leg and the teams got nervous about spending their own money. A check of a finance calculator shows me that the money stuck to the necklace would have been about $20…

($16.50, really, but the dollar has gained strength in the past few weeks so twenty is a good estimate.)

It looks like they’re running into this Holi - Wikipedia or at least a task based on throwing paint like it was the Festival of Color.

Watching Tina go at Ken while he was painting was uncomfortable. Of course, Terrence and Sarah out uncomfortabled them.

Would they have been filming this season in March? I have no idea how long the production window is on this show, actually.

I haven’t seen anything that disagrees with that timing but it’s just as likely that the producers arranged for it to be staged for the contestants.

FWIW, I read on another board, think it was TARFlies, where fans track timelines for each race, that the length this season was about 23 days.

Uh… sorry for the zombie bump, but did we have a thread on this past week’s episode, and I have just missed it?

There was one. I’m searching but the 300 second limit is KILLING ME! I think whoever started it used TAR in the title instead of “Amazing Race”, which means I have to look for racer name combinations because of the 3-letter rule. I still have 100 seconds to go…

And of course my combination of words returned nothing. 300 more seconds for me! Stupid search function…

For some reason I just can’t bring it up, but I remember discussing it, so it HAS to exist.
