The Amazing Race 11/20/15

The speed bump was comically punitive, but it’s on the right track. Future speed bumps should be that both team members must complete the task, but they should be able to do it at the same time, and (of course) aren’t allowed to help each other.

I think I didn’t comment because my expectations of them are already so low that it barely registered.

Well, also, I forgot.

This is what I was thinking, having both team members do the roadblock is fine, but at the same time. This at least gives the team a chance to get back in to it. At least it wasn’t some needle in a haystack type challenge, that could have been really bad.

Wasn’t there a Pit Stop a few seasons back where the greeter was raking leaves or dirt in between arrivals?

That was the reporters, when they got the blessing and forehead paint at the streetside Hanuman temple - she said she was a Christian, and he’s Catholic.

If you’re going to have a Speed Bump where both team members have to do the Roadblock in series rather than in parallel, then maybe add a rule that the team with the Speed Bump can’t be U-turned. At least give them a fighting chance.

Or, maybe just don’t have a U-turn on the leg right after a NEL and then it’s not an issue

Huh. I was pretty sure that was Logan, but now I’m not so sure.

I just watched the scene online, I’m extremely sure.

Kelsey: “I’m Christian, and Joey’s Catholic. I’ve never had a blessing like that, but when you get to experience a different culture, it’s special. I was honored to be a part of it.”

When Logan and Chris arrived, all they said was “Thank you.”

Kelsey’s phraseology struck me oddly (being raised Catholic myself), but I can’t argue with her appreciation of the moment. There are 2 ways to parse her statement:

(1) I’m non-denominational Christian, and Joey is a denominational Christian, specifically, Catholic.

(2) I’m a Christian, and Joey is a whore-of-Babylon idol-worshiping papist.

I’ll charitably go with the former.

I dunno, but the laminated dog-turd necklace he’s wearing has to go.

Oh, God. I’m never going to be able to look at that as not-poop again.

Wow, how amazingly culturally sensitive of you. Hei matau - Wikipedia

I’ve heard that phraseology many times. Catholic is Roman Catholic. Christian is any of the other flavors of Christianity.

Except that Catholics are Christian. It’s like saying “I’m a fruit, and he’s an apple”.

 Wow, what a boring offenderatti post. Most of Phil’s necklaces have an Aussie or New Zealand theme and don’t look like a laminated dog turd. For that matter, the picture you linked to doesn’t look like a laminated dog turd either.

I felt like she was saying the first one. She’s generic Christian and he is specifically Catholic. If she had been say, Baptist, she would have said, I am Baptist and Joey is a Catholic.

Right, that is what she was saying. She falls into the realm of fruit, but undefined. He is specifically an apple.

But as your previous post shows, there are non-Catholic Christians who would never refer to Catholics as “Christian”. Not that I’d expect one to marry a Catholic, so that’s probably not the case here.
