The Amazing Race 12/28/04 Part 2 "Phil Is a Choo-Choo Charlie"

Last week was the first half of this two parter. I have no idea what the title of this show means “Phil Is a Choo-Choo Charlie”.

I have sinking feeling that Lori & Bolo are getting the obvious ax coming down on them considering that the first train leaves in the morning at 7am and the internet cafe closes at 10am. Contingent on the time the train takes to get there, they could be gone but there might be a slight chance they could pull this out what with all of the scheduled bunching this seasons seems to have in spades.

I thought that this week was a recap/clip show?

Oh, dammit, you’re right.

“Phil Is a Choo-Choo Charlie”, Episode #606A.

Highlights and unaired scenes from the first six episodes; Jonathan tries to convince a local to keep Lori and Bolo from boarding a ferry in Africa; Kendra and Freddy lose the first clue of the race in Chicago.

I’m really hoping the Lori and Bolo don’t get the boot, they were screwed last week IMHO. I don’t see how it would have taken them from 1pm to sun set, even at it’s worst, would have to be 3-4 hours to go 60 miles. I’m thinking they waited that long for a new car. Guess we’ll find out tonight.

I would hope we conclude the leg tonight if for no other reason than it seems like we were at the end of the leg anyway, but I wouldn’t bet on it. And we know that Lori and Bolo have no way to catch up now. Hours of operation mean that they are a full 24-hours behind the other teams. They’re going to get a “Go directly to the pitstop. Do not pass go, do not collect $200” clue when they get to the cafe I suspect. I like them but they stink as racers.

So, any bets on who calls Mr Keoghan (have I got that right, you Philophiles?) a “Choo-choo Charlie”?

Worth a free holiday in the Caribbean courtesy of American Airlines on its own.

I’m gonna be extremely torqued if this is just a recap episode. Talk about dragging out the race.

it makes no difference if it is a recap here. it has been pre-empted by a local college basketball game. it will play here after the late show, the late, late show and a syndicated re-run of the drew carry show…

Lori and Bolo pulled the “special kid” card. Something tells me they will shortly be on the official SDMB Shit List.

I’m having a hard time enjoying this extremely entertaining episode because I moved “Amazing Race subtitles” to the bench in Fantasy Teevee this week, for reasons I can’t now entirely reconstruct.

Geez freakin’ Louise, I can’t believe I’ve got money on Freddy and Kendra.

Unlike Survivor’s crapfest clip shows, I’m loving this one.

Lena and Kristy are my heroes.

Newsfalash - Jonathan: still a tool.

I don’t get to see the show till this evenung (10 hours yet), but I’m glad there’s more coverage of these young women. If all Mormon babes are like these two, no wonder there’s so much polygamy in Utah.

Hayden and Kendra can go play with themselves as far as I’m concerned.

Mmm. Yummy.

Even in spite of the “special kid” lie, I do still like Lori & Bolo. As “ig’nant” as that was, it was clever - I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same thing. (I am the sort of person who would use the “I’m pregnant and I really need to get on that flight” excuse to have another team bumped.) Plus, these two fight a lot but not in a terribly destructive way, IMO, and they are funny as hell.

Although I know how TAR fans feel about bunching, here’s hoping that they make it to the Net Café before it closes (they should, since their train is supposed to arrive in Budapest at 7:23am per the official CBS website), and that there are no flights to wherever they are going next (has Kendra done her research on that yet?) until, say 11am. Go Rasslers!

I’m just here to say that I still despise Jonathan, and Kendra is doing her best to have me punch her in the face.

Funniest line of the show: Jonathan, of course, screaming out “The President of SYNAGOGUE is here!!!”

We got to cringe all over again at that idiot’s rudeness and crudeness and downright evilness to his lovely wife Victim.

Wow, Kendra is an even bigger bitch than she previously appeared to be. Freddy isn’t much better.

On the other hand, I am in love with Kris. Fun, generous, open-minded, strong, intelligent, and sexy as all-get-out!

(maybe she’s a Mormon girl, too?)

As far as clip shows go that wasn’t bad. That probably had to do with the fact that it had a good ammount of new material and putting information in the context of a season is useful.

You know, as bad as I thought Kendra was before she’s clearly a hundred times worse. She doesn’t reach Jonathan levels of nastiness, but she’s clearly clueless. I hope it was only Freddy who was keeping things moving on that team since if he goes next week then that could knock them out of the race. (Unless their being eliminated would prevent a certain other team from being eliminated in which case they need to stay in).

And Gus is even cooler than I thought before. On top of his other achievements the man have a beer named after him and he knows that as well. I know that you have to have some nasty people to add conflict to the reality show stew but I like watching teams like Gus and Hera who are having fun and have great personalities for television…

I found the clip show interesting in that it reinforced my views of the teams in showing them either at brief leisure times or under stress:

The appalling:
Jonathan and Victoria - certainly not regretting sending that letter of complaint to CBS

The awful:
Freddy and Kendra - though really it’s mostly Kendra. I can’t imagine being on a round the world trip with someone who has such a closed mind. The repeat of the line about “breeding” certainly doesn’t improve my perspective on her.

The “meh” teams:
Lori and Bolo - don’t really dislike them that much, but not really liking them either. Their arguing is annoying to me, not because it’s destructive like Jonathan and Victoria, but because it reminds me of a Jerry Springer show.
Rebecca and Adam - he really is a mama’s boy, and I can’t quite figure out what they saw in each other. I also don’t think they’re very good at the race.
Hayden and Aaron - annoying enough to me that they’d probably rank higher in a different season. They just can’t compete for awfulness against Freddy and Kendra, let alone Jonathan and Victoria

And then those that impressed:
Gus and Hera - the more I see them the more I like. I laughed at Gus with the beer, and continue to be impressed by their smarts.
**Kris and John ** - continuously positive and supportive to each other, seem to be competitive but not cut-throat to other teams, and enjoying the experience while they are at it.

And then of course, there’s always Phil, the choo choo Charlie. I’d be tempted to freshen up my lipstick too.

Got a scare when I was out of the house tonight and suddenly realized I forgot to confirm if NoTaTiVo was set up to record this. I’m in the habit of scheduling each recording a week in advance, but my NoTaTiVo gets flaky when it’s nearly full up (which it has been constantly since I got it, lol) so I like to keep on top of it. Luckily it did record the episode – not that it matters much, as this clip show was somewhat boring. No suspense, natch.

I’m surprised they didn’t continue last week’s leg at all…that Internet Cafe would have been a great bookend for this episode: “Welcome to AOL, Jonathan & Victoria. Here are the clips which show you being the jerk you are. And here are some more unaired clips that show how stupid you are, too. ‘SYNAGOGUE President’?? WTF was that?” And of course at the empty terminal we’d see Phil’s webcam saying, “Ok Lori & Bolo, here is…hello? Anyone there?”

Speaking of J&V, did anyone notice the infamous “shove” in Berlin was mysteriously edited out?? I wonder if CBS caved in to all those rants and complaints…which really were overblown, I think. They should know better than to pay attention to anyone on the freakin’ Internet.

they also edited out the “No wonder they escaped” line from someone in Africa(kendra or Hayden?), but there’s obviously not enough time to show everything. I liked the show since I didn’t see the first episode or two. This is the first time I’ve really seen the show and I like it way better than Survivor or any other ‘reality’, though I don’t really watch much of any other ones.

I thought J was saying “Synagogue” too, man, how dumb can you be. Do some research!
