This season is so forgettable that I can’t remember the racers’ names 12 hours after they’ve been eliminated! Sorry to see them go, though. They were about the only blind date team that really seemed to be getting along.
Which makes me wonder - if you’re a team that can barely stand each other, and you come in first on a leg of the race and win a trip to somewhere, do you have to take it together?
I thought using the roulette wheel to choose your roadblock for you was interesting, but other than that, it was another kinda “meh” leg.
There were two blonde women that when they weren’t with their dates I had no idea which was which. I know that the bitchy one is Blair (or is it Haley? Honestly I have no idea which of those two names is for the guy or the girl) and that the other one was from a team I liked, but I could not for the life of me tell them apart. That shows how utterly unremarkable and boring this season has become.
I was hoping that Phil would ask for the roses and chocolates at the mat, so the teams that ate their chocolates would have to go back and buy another box.
And I wonder if they’re letting them keep the dresses & suits, or if someone is going to buy truck stop guys incredibly sweaty outfit at a second hand store?
Everyone else had straps of some sorts on their gowns. The two blondes with larger breasts, strapless. And Nursy Nurse seemed to be trying to bounce out of hers. Not that I minded much. She’s not bad looking.
The tasks have been so lame so far. It seems that the hardest task for everyone is following driving directions.
That was one cool looking overlook where they had the zipline.
It figures that the one blind date team that was actually getting along would be eliminated. This was a waste of a good location and some good tasks. However, I didn’t like that the detour leg was randomly assigned. Would the teams have been given the option to switch, I wonder?
Another uninspired episode from a thoroughly flat season. Other than the location, which was beautiful and interesting, the episode was just blah.
It seems like the producers have been trying deliberately to avoid having challenges that will actually separate the teams. Although there was some minor drama over which flight the teams took, that all got washed away when the teams all had to wait for the next day to take the helicopter rides.
The actual competitive tasks were all things that simply ate up time. The first was to run around a less than a square mile city to a couple of places to collect some items. Sure you could gain or lose a little bit of time, but it’s awfully hard to totally ace it or bollix it up. The second was to either go back and forth on a zip line/rope walk, which is just a task that takes a relatively constant amount of time unless you have some sort of freak-out, or to follow a formula (with some unknowns) to make perfume, something that could be screwed up a bit, but not in a way that requires repeated do-overs.
It’s telling that half of the teams arrived on the mat together in a bunch. I don’t think I can ever recall so many episodes with multiple teams arriving at the pit stop while the other teams were still present. It shows that there just isn’t much out there to split the effective teams from the mediocre ones.
Similarly, it is telling that this the only reason that the last team got eliminated (and I agree that it’s disappointing that they were the one blind date couple that I liked and who seemed to like each other) was what seemed to be a minor navigation snafu. Normally, when you run clean through an episode and get caught in a wrong turn, it’s a recoverable mistake. Here, because none of the teams had anything that could really delay them, a navigation mistake was fatal.
I suppose that at this point it is anyone’s race, but I’m not sure I care. I don’t have anyone I’m really rooting for or against.
Yeah, part of the problem of this season is the samey-ness of the remaining teams. The two gay couples are eliminated, so everyone remaining is a male-female couple (dating or blind, it’s still a closer dynamic than child/parent, lifelong friends, etc.) under the age of 32. Not exactly a lot of diversity there.
Also, none of the teams seems to really stand out in terms of ability - usually by this time there are 2-3 teams which have a good chance to win it and a couple of teams with no chance. Right now I’d favor the Olympians but they could get eliminated next week and I wouldn’t be shocked (especially with the way they’ve designed these challenges). And the Truck Stop couple is probably the worst but even they’ve finished 1st in a leg.
Then I guess I wasn’t paying that much attention. It seemed to me that the first two teams that got the perfume task got beaten by the first couple of zip line groups. That shows how boring this one was as I don’t even remember that much.
I would blame not knowing names on this poor season but I almost never remember their names.
This episode was better than last week. It wasn’t unpleasant to watch. Also I enjoyed it even more because for once they were in a place I had actually been to. I was in Nice and Monaco many years ago and it was fun to see it again.
I found the false Detour kind of weird in theory. It really wasn’t a debtor if you couldn’t pick what you wanted to do or switch but the idea of tying gambling into things was fun. I guess I liked the idea, just not calling it a detour.
I really enjoyed the Perfume challenge. Perfume is a big industry there so it was relevant and it was a unique challenge.
I think most people, especially early in the season, hang some convenient label on each team - the gay guys, the cheerleaders, the frat bros, deaf kid and mom. This season, however, there’s the added layer of differentiating the blind date vs the already-dating couples. Plus the teams are already so homogeneous (especially after the elimination of the homosexual couples) that it’s difficult to tell them apart. The only ones that stand out now are the minority couple (don’t know their names) and the truck stop couple (don’t know their names either). Oh, and Annoying Nurse who is either Hayley or Blair.
