I figure now is as good a time as any to say it: JohnT was right in making this thread and using this thread title. We did, in fact, experience an attempted coup.
Fortunately for us, it was never really organized and Trump didn’t know what he was doing, but what else can you call what we’ve seen the last few weeks, other than attempted coup?
Definition of coup d’état: a sudden decisive exercise of force in politics especially: the violent overthrow or alteration of an existing government by a small group
I’ve seen a number of tweets comparing photos of Horn Boy in the Capitol with him at BLM protests and screeching that “THIS! This PROVES it was Antifa!” Totally ignoring or ignorant of the fact he’s a down-the-rabbit-hole QAnoner.
"What astonishes me is that, “moderates” or not, the events of the 6th and all of the associated posturing prior to should be seen as self-evidently bad to any normal person. And IMHO that should include whatever it takes to remove Trump from office ASAP, as also self-evident.
The fact that it doesn’t to some people says a lot about their views of civilized society."
This is where the woman was shot. They were evacuating the members of Congress 3 ish feet away. I believe that the policemen who were trying to keep them from the doors heard that reinforcements were on the other side of the door and got out of the way of their shots. As a woman was shot and killed moments later by the reinforcements on the other side of the door, I believe it was a prudent move.
Even without a charge of treason, we do have Trump’s own Executive Order:
It is the policy of the United States to prosecute to the fullest extent permitted under Federal law, and as appropriate, any person or any entity that destroys, damages, vandalizes, or desecrates a monument, memorial, or statue within the United States or otherwise vandalizes government property. The desire of the Congress to protect Federal property is clearly reflected in section 1361 of title 18, United States Code, which authorizes a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment for the willful injury of Federal property.
They will charge them on some offenses to hold them in jail, then later add other charges as warranted. The simple, easy charges gives them custody of them, they can question them and findother charges. Also after questioning them, be able to charge other people.
What @rocking_chair says. Also, there’s a ton of photo and video evidence from news reporters and social media plus info from tipsters and other defendants trying to cut a deal to work through, catalogue, link to individuals, and assemble into a case for taking to the grand jury to obtain superseding indictments with more severe charges. Lots and lots of work ahead for the Justice Department.
You can also see that when the tactical officers show up, one of them stands against the wall by the stairs(?) and is communicating by gesture and facial expressions with someone on the other side of the barricaded doors.
According to cnn, pence has not ruled out the 25th. The quote is that: pence not ruling out 25th amendment; wants to preserve it in case trump becomes more unstable.
Good grief, more unstable. I’m sure if you put him in hospital for observation, you would find quite a few doctors who would say he is delusional and unstable.
