Did anybody watch the premiere to The American Embassy tonight? If so, was it any good? I have it recorded and I’m planning on watching it Thursday night so try not to spoil anything when expressing your opinion on it
I watched all but the last fifteen minutes. Not because it was hoprribly bad, I jsut had to go do other things. I thought it was a good mix of comedy and drama…though the story was kinda…shotty. I find it hard to believe that the girl

I think I’ll watch next time it’s on.
I was also annoyed with the love triangle bit, but all in all a decent show. The lead actress is just too cute for words and the acting is all-around ok. The nieghbor in the show gets my vote for the ugliest drag queen in history (Phyllis Diller would be proud) I’ll watch again, actually I look forward to the next episode.
I’m not a very good TV/movie critic, but I enjoyed the show.
And I liked Gary.
I refused to watch it, for i felt from the commercials they were being too self-righteous. “blonde girl who, from the commercials, appears to not be able to act, goes to England where Americans are getting in trouble each week and has adventures with spies”
Yeah, right. Maybe in Pakistan, americans get in trouble each week, but unless we have a group of Americans in GB that soccer riot each week, i bet working there is one boring “i need my student visa extended” case after another.
Monday night is still video night for me!
I was going to watch it, but the silly-yet-loveable show I like, Glory Days, moved to the same time slot this week. Maybe if there are repeats…
My housemate noted that the show premiered while there was still time to register to take the examst to get a U.S. foreign service job. Is this an attempt to get people to entetr the foreign service? Also the Embassy in London is an ugly concrete building from the time when every new building was ugly and concrete, not some nice looking and easily attacked building like it is in the show.
Also
SEMI SPOILER
Did it have to end the way it did? That just seems stupid, if topical, to me.
END SEMI SPOILER
Tars Tarkas - yeah really. I would watch this show if they sent her somewhere really exotic. If she was a sheltered blonde fresh-out-of-college American girl who got sent to a third-world or otherwise nation where there was a lot of poltical turmoil, radically different social customs, etc. that would make a cool show, imho. They could show her coming out of her shell and being exposed to a different culture.
I’d watch that. But instead, they sent her to… London. Nothing against London, but that’s not exactly the most exciting city to set a show about an embassy in.
I don’t know, this was quite exciting.
I wasn’t even born when that happened!
i was two, but i was more concerned in meeting Cookie Monster than caring what happened to Iranians in England. I didn’t even know what Iran was! Why can’t American Embassy take place in Iran! That would be soooooo much more interesting!

Well, I’m not sure, but seeing as it can take up to 27 months to get posted, I’d say they’re building up lead time.
I’m actually interested in this show, as I’m going to be a US Foreign Service Officer in a little under six months. It’ll be interesting to see how my experiences mirror that of the show. Like , not at all, probably.
