Our basement tree is still up and fully decorated from last year.
Yeah, we’re early.

The first weekend I have free in December is usually tree weekend, and that varies. But I like to have it up before the 20th at least, so I have time to enjoy the tree.
It comes down after New Years.
Up: weekend after Thanksgiving if possible, or as soon after as we reasonably can.
Down: Epiphany (Jan 6).
Last year I was the only one in our neighborhood who still had their Christmas lights on by Jan 5, but I can’t help it if they don’t know the liturgical calendar.
That’s your own fault, you can tell by looking at the pictures those cats are constantly up to no good
Up: First or second weekend after Thanksgiving
Down: New Year’s Day or the 1st weekend after NYD.
Same here ('cept the Kid2’s birthday is on the 8th).
Sometime in the first week of December.
Sometime in the second week of January.
Normally I’d go for the weekend after Thanksgiving, but mine is up already, too. I had a sudden and unexpected surge of energy the other night and took care of lots of stuff while it lasted.
What’s a week, anyway? The tree is cute!
The tree goes up in the middle of December. That’s when Mom’s birthday is, and we always went tree cutting the weekend before. Plus, since I grew up having a real tree, you don’t want it around for weeks and weeks. That’s just asking for needles everywhere and increased fire hazard.
The tree comes down shortly after New Years. Outside lights can continue to be used after that, since January in the north is cold, dark and dreary. Lights make it better.
I’m an atheist and love Christmas but hate Christmas trees. So never. Fake ones look stupid and real ones seem wasteful (although they smell nice).
When I was a kid we always did it on the twelfth of December. It was my birthday celebration and I loved it. But we only kept it up 13 days! Now we start much earlier, usually putting it up on or soon after Thanksgiving.
Oh,put it up around mid-December. I bought a real tree for 20 years, and frankly, there is very little Christmas spirit here anymore. Now I have a nice little tabletop tree from Target. I got rid of all the Christmas crap, the garlands, the silk poinsettias, the ugly red felt stockings. Saved a box of the best of the best ornaments, the gold-painted macaroni, the yarn Eye of God, the reindeers made from clothespins…looks great! I take it down sometime in the week after New Years day.
We have had living trees for years now. When we had a place to plant them after the holidays, we bought 4-5 ft Douglas Firs or other evergreens. Now, we have a 4-5 ft Norfolk Pine that lives on the balcony and comes inside to be decorated.
(We usually set it up on a tall pedestal, but it’s grown since last year and is brushing the ceiling, so its now on a shorter pedestal)
I brought it in the other day (expecting a hard freeze sometime in the next few days) and we are going to decorate it in the next few days. we leave it up until Spring solstice. One, no worry about a dead tree becoming a fire hazzard and two, the lights are lovely and brighten the long, dark days and nights of winter.
Up: Day after Thanksgiving
Down: Mid February, sometimes late February-I’d like to keep it up till St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), but my wife gets after me.
We generally don’t put up the tree until the first or second week of December. Last year it was very close to Christmas because we were still unpacking and settling in.
That being said, our tree is up right now, though not decorated. We had so many issues with balancing the real tree last year (it fell over 3 times and broke a whole lot of decorations) so we decided to get a fake one. It’s 9’ tall and pre-lit with white lights. We put it up to make sure all the parts were there and that everything works correctly. It looks awesome, so much so that we’re debating on not even decorating it. I’ve never been a fan of white lights or snowed-on looking trees but this one fits our house so well.
I haven’t gotten around to fixing the branches yet so it’s a bit funky looking. We’re trying to give the dogs time to get used to the tree before we put our few remaining decorations on it.
It’ll probably come down before my birthday (1/13). That’s generally the deadline but there’s no specific time for it.
My birthday’s late in November, so I like putting it up the weekend after that. It’s an easy way to remember.
We start on the Friday after Thanksgiving and it usually takes until Sunday before all the decorations are finished.
Tear down begins January 1st and usually finished in a day - goes faster to take down than put up.
Psychologically, we think as soon as the tree is down, Winter is over and Spring begins - so we are equally eager to take it down.
Ours goes up after Dearly Beloved’s birthday, which is in mid December. It comes down the day after Epiphany, one day before Youngest’s birthday. When I was a kid we put our tree up on the third Sunday of Advent because my mother was born on Solstice night. Seems like I have spent my life avoiding birthdays.
In this part of Holland, the creche is usually placed under the tree (as Santa does not come to put presents under it). The three kings are not placed in the creche, but somewhere else in the house when decorations go up. As the Christmas season proceeds, they come closer and closer to the creche, and on Epiphany they get there. So we let them rest a day and then put everything away. Then we put up the flags for the birthday.
This year should be interesting as we have acquired a rather large dog in the interim.
We put one up a week or two before Christmas. It comes down sometime in January, it varies.
Up: The day fter Thanksgiving.
Down: December 28th, because the next day is my birthday :D.
