The Apprentice -- 12/1 and 12/2

Word. She could have saved herself if she had half a brain. Kelly didn’t really seem to do anything, and Kevin dropped the price without consulting the PM. The Triad is big on “you didn’t set the price high enough” even if realistically speaking it wouldn’t have mattered.

Instead, she attacks Jenn yet again. I know it’s all editing, but I swear - can’t Apex talk about movies for ten minutes and give the Jenn bashing a rest?

I’m predicting Jenn and Kelly in the final two. Both of them are sharp and articulate enough to survive the four horsemen next week. I think Kevin will come out looking the worst. Sandy might fare OK, and actually I see her pretty close to Kelly and Jenn as far as the interviews go, so it may be a tough call on who to fire. Are they firing two next week?

Yes, they fire two next week.

In the previews we saw one of the interviewers ask something like “Do you even know what you want to do?” with an incredulous look on her face.

Any speculation who she was talking to? I have no clue, but it probably wasn’t Jen. Can’t see her being indecisive or unrehearsed at this point.

I don’t see Jenn making it past the interviews for the sheer fact that you do have to have some personality to do well in a face to face interview. The other thing that jen fans should be worried about is that she has never really had her feet put to the fire, so she may become a bumbling, blubbering little girl.

Kelly seemed to catch some flak last night, but he is still the frontrunner, and should handle the interviews well. he has decent charisma, and a good head on his shoulders.

Kevin and Sandy are both wildcards, because they both are emotional. I imagine Kevin will come off a little too excitable under pressure, and that Sandy is the recipient of “do you even know what you want to do?”, not a good sign. But then again, those two roles could very easily be reversed.

I’m thinking Kelly and Sandy in the finale, with Sandy scoring an upset.

That’s what I’m leaning toward, too. Welcome to the boards!

I think the final two will be Jenn and Kelly. The interviews will be really hard for Sandy and Kevin.

I find that about as likely as Kelly displaying humility or Sandy easing off on the makeup.

Welcome, btw.

I’d also argue that Raj basically saved the day on that particular task.

I love it when I’m right

It happens so seldom that I must crow about it.

I dunno, she seems to be able to turn on the charm when she wants to. Sandy was talking about her being able to connect with the customers well last night, and on the Levis task Ivana was bitching about Jenn being able to sway people with all that fembot junk. That says to me that the girl’s got some charisma. Besides, we’ve all seen her kick ass on presentations, and what is a job interview but a one-person presentation about yourself? I think she’ll fare well enough in the interviews–better than Kevin and his flopsweat, anyway.

If I had to make the call, I’d say the final two will be Kelly and Jenn, not necessarily because they’re good, but because they don’t seem to have the fatal flaws of the other two. Kevin’s flopsweat and his loose cannon tendencies will probably be enough to do him in. Yeah, Ivana took a lot of heat last night for not controlling Kevin, but Trump doesn’t want people who have to be controlled. Trump wants people he can trust to control themselves and the people under them. Sandy…well, I think she’s got a lot of business acumen, and seems to have argued well for herself last week, but I think her lack of formal education will be enough to knock her out of the running. It’s the Troy issue all over again–she’s just not going to be taken seriously by the sort of people Trump will need her to deal with.

Oh, and while we’re talking about Troy, was anyone else kind of pissed off at last night’s pitiful attempt to recreate his and Kwame’s very touching moments before the boardroom at this point last year? I mean, we haven’t seen Kevin and Ivana interact on a personal level all season, and now we’re supposed to believe they’re bestest friends and be all teary-eyed at the thought of them having to go one-on-one? Bitch, please. I am so not buying that shit, and screw you for thinking I would.

You absolutely do NOT have to have “personality” to do well in an interview. You have to seem cool under pressure, be articulate, and seem confident. Jenn has all those qualities in spades. Jenn is going to ace those interviews.

I used to work for a guy who was getting his Ph.D. at the ILR School at Cornell. He did research on this and evidently interviews are poor predictors of future job performance. Go figure.

As a Jenn fan, I have absolutely zero worries about her presentation in the interviews. If anyone’s going to turn into a bumbling blubbering little girl, it’s Sandy. Witness her tongue-tied ineptitude in the Pepsi presentation and her bawling during the house renovation for evidence.

I’d lay a fairly sizable bet that you’re wrong.

I’m also favoring Sandy over Jenn betwen the women, Kelly slightly over Kevin and Sandy to win the whole thing.

I like Sandy just fine, but there’s no way in hell she’ll win. She won’t even make it to the final two.

Kelly and Jenn, with Kelly winning overall.

BTW, I asked a question last night, and it wasn’t rhetorical – What the hell was Ivana thinking when she dropped trou last night? Seriously! What. Was. She. Thinking?

Not just once but repeatedly! For some reason, after the promo last week I assumed it was a one-flash deal.

She was thinking, “I need to make money. I need to make money right now. As fast as I can, because Jendy is way, way ahead. What’s the fastest way I can possibly make money?”

She was fully into desparate survival mode, and who can blame her, since Kelly and Kevin were determined to not help in any way?

Would she have asked Kevin? If he has an undergad degree, an MBA, and he’s in law school now (I think that’s what he said in the boardroom last night), it could be seen as indecision/unwillingness to make a career move.

Did Ivana’s downfall remind anyone of Meet the Parents? A spiralling downfall of humilation until you had to put your hands over your eyes to keep from turning to stone!? Difficult to watch…but fun to discuss.

A few Random Thoughts:

  • Ivana’s problem the whole season has been that she worries about what everyone else is doing and getting and not worrying about her own business. She acts like she is still in high school. When she draws bead on someone, she can’t concentrate on anything but dooming her rival. Pathetic…and amusing at the same time!

  • Was Ivana REALLY trying to get Jenn fired, was it frustration of her own chances diminishing, or did she know she was toast and was trying to sow the seeds for Jenn’s downfall as a parting gift to Kelly and Kevin? I would say the latter, partially because it defies logic to try to sour grapes your way out that way, but I think it is more a combination of the first two options. Right after she did that, she attacked Kevin (showing she had not given up).

  • Good job admitting you may not be a good leader, but that you are a good team player. I agree with this. I think you will make an excellent addition to the final two’s task force. But not the Apprentice.

  • I would have liked it if Ivana has realized she was toast and made a stab at Reality TV Immortality. “Mr. Trump, I realize that I am finished. I made a mistake and I don’t want to allow you the pleasure of firing me. Mr. Trump (insert Cobra Strike!), I QUIT!” (If this happened in Season 1, disregard!)

  • I think Sandy finally nailed Jennifer (pause to think about the possible double entendres!) in her assessment. Not only is she a bit artificial, but she isn’t there to make friends. It was “all business.” I respect Jenn for that. I think she has been harsh but not petty. When she stabs someone, it generally isn’t in the back. It is right in the face.

  • Who LOVED the fact that Jendy’s (though I prefer the term “Saniffer”) driver tried to make an “I’ll be your candy man” joke and it fell FLAT?! Dead silence! And Burnett still showed it! The look on his disappointed face was priceless!

  • How dare Kevin fix a problem without asking for permission. I’d HATE having someone like that working for me!

  • Big Cheese, I gotta disagree. I think Ivana couching her striptease as a “gimmick” was about the only route to take. She shouldn’t have done it, but once it was done, she HAD to try to spin it. It was just a tough thing to spin. Kind of like spinning Nixon’s involvement in Watergate as his being a hand’s on president. But at least make an argument!

  • I also agree to some extent with Standup Karmic and George that at least she tried SOMETHING. She was behind the 8-Ball either way. If Trump had fired her anyway if she had won the challenege, I think I would have stopped watching. Gotta honor the rules of the game. If you were worried about being associated with a freak, ya shouldn’t be in reality television!

  • Is there a reunion show at the end (ala Survivor?)?

  • I loved it that Sandy didn’t wanna give Donald the satisfaction of seeing her and Jenn in a catfight. Nice to call him a perv. (Cue the announcer)In what promises to be the HOTTEST Boardroom yet, Trump orders Carolyn to referee a mud wrestling match to determine who will be fired, and who will replace Melani! HEY! That’s better than a double firing!

  • Wasn’t the “heat” Trump and George put on Kelly last night (Carolyn loves Kelly) just a ploy to create a little drama for the finale? Burnett doesn’t want us thinking that it is a runaway. Not being able to be a street vendor doesn’t necessarily disqualify someone from having the ability to run a company. I’d love to see George have to sell candy.

  • In response to Crazy Cat Lady, I respectfully disagree. To Ivana’s credit, she did look like she had real trouble crossing the boundaries in the Boardroom attacking Kevin. I truly believe those three admired each other’s abilities. And even when they did go back and forth with each other about intelligence, there was no venom. I’ll bet they have no animosity toward each other. I thought it was nice. I have hated Ivana since week 2, but I kind of felt sorry for her tonight.

For the lack of formal education Sandy will not be the final winner, and not even in the final two for that matter.

Also, because this is more show biz than real biz, they will not pick two white males in a row, so Kelly will not be the winner. He’s still possible for the final two, though, and if he makes it that far, the other person will win.

That leaves Jenn and Kevin. Jenn is very confident, tough, a bit more polished than the others, and very good at presentation - especially of herself. I believe Jenn will make the final two and beat whichever male she faces.

I for one was pleased to see Ivana show her true colors in the boardroom last night. Rather than make a cogent defense of her strip tease (and I think one could be made, except that she only got $20 for it, whereas Jandifer got $1000+), she attacked Jenn, whose two-woman team beat her like a red-headed stepchild. I believe she went for Jenn because she was hoping against hope that she’d have some effect on Jenn’s success, but all she did was expose herself as a jealous, spiteful carper with no capacity for self-reflection.

How ridiculous it was for Ivana to be angry at Jenn and Sandy for using sex to sell candy bars! Wake up to the real business world, spoiled Ms. Porsche-Wrecker-- advertising has been using sex to sell since the beginning of time. Can’t be mad and Jenn and Sandy for using this time-honored practice to overcome their disadvantage for being 1/3 the size of Apex. She should have been mad at herself for not coming up with any marketing strategy at all. I mean, seriously, the only thing that candy bar had going for it was marketing, and they never even discussed it. That’s why they lost, and they deserved to lose.

Kelly was a giant jerk last night. He knew he was in the Final 4 so he was completely unhelpful. I’ve noticed this before; Kelly works his ass off if he’s PM, and either wrests control away or does nothing when he’s not, just goes along and stays quiet. I guess I just don’t like him. He’s as plastic as everyone claims Jenn is, just as cold, except he’s nasty behind people’s backs. He underestimated Jandifer because I think he’s a bit of a sexist dog and thinks he’s automatically superior to blonde hotties. Guess what? Nope.

I think Carolyn was 100% right when she said to Ivana, “You weren’t selling candy bars.”

Jenn and Sandy used sex to sell candy bars. Ivana sold sex with a free candy bar thrown in.
