The Apprentice. 3/4/04

Exactly. I can’t believe how well Trump comes off. I was all set to hate him and he turns out to be a pretty cool guy.

Most I knew about Trump was from the publicity surrounding his divorce from Ivana. When I read about the premise of the show, I thought it would suck, who’d want to watch this “rich clown.”

I agree that he seems like a cool guy now. And I cringe whenever I see him refered to as “the Donald,” as I feel it’s disrespectful. When Ivana coined that name, it probably was in disrespect as it was during or right after the divorce.

As for Carolyn, I think she’s hot. Smart, attractive women in business suits move me.

I followed Trump pretty closely (in the media, that is) around the time he first became famous and his book, “The Art Of The Deal” came out, mostly because I was so impressed that someone only 44 years old could have accomplished all that he had at that time. He and Ivana were still going strong at that time, and if memory serves me correctly the term had already caught on by then. Her referring to him as “the Donald” was a result of her not yet having a complete command of the English language, and it was a grammatical error on her part. She was prone to such things and around the same time she said to someone in the media – I forget who – that Donald was “always beaming and scheming,” when what she meant was that he was always “wheeling and dealing.” These things were very amusing at the time. “The Donald” caught on because it was such a perfect fit. They refer to him that way on NBC’s web site and Trump himself has always seemed to get a kick out of it.
