The Arctic Front Has Arrived

What have the Esquimeaux ever done for us?

Look, we can send a polar vortex your way. You think we can’t, or we won’t?

Looks like we are at about 18-20 inches of snow so far. Another 6 inches last night and coming down heavy now

We are trying to figure out how we are going to get my wife’s car into the shop to get the radiator replaced. It will need to be towed, it’s leaking that bad. We are mountain rural, and on a dead end road. A part time ‘resident’ thought it would be a good idea to park a trailer full of construction crap at the dead end turn around cul-de-sak. It’s going to make it hard for a wrecker to turn around. Winter pretty effectively makes this a one lane road.

Gonna be interesting.

24 degrees in central South Carolina this morning. Brr.

Right where I’m sitting.

But this is why the term “global warming” is considered inaccurate as opposed to the more correct “climate change.” You get extremes at both ends – hotter summers and colder winters.

Yeah, apart from snowpack and aquifer replenishment, thermohaline downflow sustainment, polar bear maintenance, throat singing, syllabics, and hosting Santa Claus, what have the Esquimeaux ever done for us?

Me either!

It was so cold here today that I put on a sweater when I left the house today, but then it got too warm from the exertion of a few minutes’ walking. I had to take it off and carry it; I hate that!

It got down to 54 degrees F last night. I almost had to close the window. I blame global warming.

Here in frigid Washington DC, my agency’s HVAC is blowing cold air. We’ve been assured that the agency has top men working on the problem, though. Top. Men.

I’ve been stoically putting up with this crap for about a week now, but I have to start whining. It was 13 °F (-11 °C) this morning. That’s the sort of mid-winter deep freeze we usually see in late-January/early-February, not before freakin’ Thanksgiving has even arrived! At least we haven’t had much snow around here. Just a dusting. I can’t even fathom getting 6 feet of snow in 1 day.

If you are stuck, and bored, and hate the cold, you can watch the blizzard of 1977 and feel better about your current situation.

None of that truly can convey just how bad it was.

…and we just got about an inch of snow last night. Dammit. Hopefully the hardware store has stocked rock salt already.

I heard tell there was yet another winter storm happening.
