I’ve worn out many decks of cards playing this old game.
I learned it when my sibs were allowed out but I wasn’t.
It’s kept me entertained many hours.
I’ve never done the online version til recently.
It’s a site that times you, counts your moves and compares it with your last games.
So…since I’m a ne’er-do-well and too curious for my own good, I’m wondering is there a way to hack this site so you will always win?
I’ve found I can answer faster by not studying the board, I can re-tap the deck cards and it moves the game along quickly. But it also raises your move count.
Then there’s the Row of Aces. If a move fits in the Ace Row it lights up.
To say the least I like winning.
Beck, loved the “worn out many decks of cards” remark.
Do you recall that some years ago, I asked the SDMB about appearing in a community theatre production of The Gin Game? Playing cards are an important part of that show, and so, I got a few of my favourite decks–“Bee” cards, if anybody cares to know.
And I worked hard to break them in for the show. Yes, playing cards must be broken in, and I did it by shuffling, and dealing imaginary hands, and reverse shuffling, and handling them, and shuffling again. “Bees” are tough cards, but their durability makes them perfect for long-term play.
Might I suggest that if you want a durable deck of real cards, that you consider “Bee” playing cards?
I used to go the track with my Daddy. They often have ‘Bees’ for give aways.
I still have a bunch of unopened boxes. They are Poker sized. I like regular size.
Oh Beck. You mentioned the track. One of my favourite places. I plan to be there tomorrow (I’m taking the day off for reasons).
I agree, Bees are the best.
Years ago, I used to play in a Friday-night poker game. We always used Bees, because they were so hard to mark. Plus, all of us were card sharps–to this day, I can still deal seconds and bottoms. Don’t ask me why my Zippo lighter played a role. Let’s just say that you don’t want me to touch cards in a gambling game. The most honest card game I’ve ever played was one where we were all sharps, and knew what to look for. And watch out for my Zippo and I.
I have a couple hundred decks of playing cards. Some are regular and some are really fancy. 121 of them are various styles of Bicycle rider back cards. The few open decks I have are mostly used for cribbage but I do play a game of solitaire once in a while. I have the MS Solitaire collection on my computer, I attempt the Daily Challenge every day. I’m at Grandmaster level 17 in the Klondike game.
If you’re looking for a solitaire version that’s a bit faster pace I recommend Pyramid 13. Once you get the hang of it (which won’t take long), you can set up and blow through a game in about 5 minutes. It’s particularly good when you’re feeling a bit fidgety as there’s a lot of card handling and shuffling between games.
If your volume is up high enough you hear a definite click after a face card is played.
I’m not sure I can find a way to use this for a hack to win more.
I guess that’s my motivation.
