Which all-girl band did you prefer, The Bangles or The Go-Go’s? I liked the go-gos more, but the bangles are close.

Both are, IMHO, pretty good pop bands.

The Go-Go’s. They started out as a punk rock band. Plus I met them. Plus I always wanted to to Jane Weidlin. Plus they got the beat.

The stuff the Bangles did was more varied. And the Go-Go’s never walked like an Egyptian.
I remember thinking the Bangles’ lead singer was hot.

Definitely the Go-Go’s. Belinda Carlisle is a hottie and had nice hooters.
I liked them both. Still do. My old band used to do the Go-Gos’“How Much More” as a cover at almost every show we did; and we opened for Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles on the Cleveland stop of her last tour, in spring '98.
I’d go with the Bangles but my favorite was an all-chick band known as The Pandoras. They existed in the mid-late 80s, released a couple of kick-ass albums but, alas, are no more.

The Go-Gos’ big hits (“We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,”) have slightly more shelf-life than the Bangles’.
But I have to go with the Bangles cuz I had a gigantic crush on their lead singer, Susanna Hoffs.
(Now that she’s washed up and I’m past puberty, maybe I have a shot …)

Susanna Hoffs was definitely worth looking at, and the Bangles may have been a better band overall than the Go-Go’s, but the Go-Go’s produced a larger body of good work, and most importantly, had Jane Wiedlin. Always wished I could say the same.

Musically, the Bangles were far superior to the Go-Gos (and I say that as someone who also likes the Go-Gos). In the beginning the Go-Gos couldn’t even play their instruments and crowds came just to laugh at them screwing up. If the Bangles had stayed together longer than just three albums, I don’t think we’d even be seriously arguing the point.
And while Susanna was of course a hottie, don’t shortchange Vicki Peterson: she was even prettier than Susanna, but didn’t get as much attention because she didn’t usually sing lead.
And then there’s Michael Steele. Is there anything sexier than a girl bassist?
With all the meaty subjects on this board, I’m astonished it took this one to finally make me post. Funny what starts our motors, isn’t it?
