Okay, so I’m a nutso '80s Bangles fan. Skipped school to go see them in NY last year and all that. And they’ve been promising a new album for a long long time, and their website (www.thebangles.com) is not forthcoming with details, other than that they’ve apparently finished recording.
But what do you think? Will they come back? Will they disappear again? Do you care?
Hey now, All Over The Place was damn good too. They managed to have a sixties influence in their music without sounding like scraggly hippies who soak themselves in petouli oil. Hell, I dug their self-titled EP.
And I saw them at Irving Plaza last year too. Magic, I hope you weren’t one of those heavy-set dudes in 10-year-old faded Bangles t-shirts who brought flowers for Susanna.
Anyway, if bad band chemistry doesn’t rip them apart again, I can see a new album coming out soon. It sounded like they got a lot of new stuff and they clearly loved playing live again. I mean they thanked the audience so much at the concert it was embarrassing.
Hey, Cliffy, don’t get snarky on Susannah. I vividly remember walking through the Student Union in college one day in the mid-80s and seeing this captivating woman on the big-screen TV in the lounge, cutting her eyes left and right while singing “Walk Like an Egyptian.” I’d never heard of the Bangles before then, but something about Susannah just made my pituitary gland tingle.
Probably the single most powerful effect any woman has ever had on me at first sight.
