The Banning of Shodan

Let me see if I’ve understood the situation:

  1. Calling the problem lodger a harpy is allowed, because she really did have atoxic personality.

  2. Calling the professor a harpy is not allowed, because she does not have a toxic personality.

  3. Jonathan Chance has the authority to decide, based upon his own personal opinion of the woman’s personal qualities.

Is that about it, Chronos?

Are you going to keep going at this until you get the only answer you want to hear?

dup

Are you going to keep going at this until you get the only answer you want to hear?

The actual toxicity of the person is irrelevant, as is the mod’s view of it. It’s whether the poster is speaking about someone they know (as opposed to just someone they’ve read an article about.) Chronos was quite clear on that being one difference (and not the only one), I thought.

That’s a distinction without any meaningful difference. It’s ridiculous pretzel logic to retroactively justify a bad moderator decision.

Meh. I can see the difference Chronos was conveying, and I find it meaningful in distinguishing angry person from troll. I’m not responsible for your lack of vision.

He’s still gone no matter how much lip-flapping goes on here, right?

Regards to him and the horse he rode in on.

You are the one mystifyingly interpreting my post in the exact opposite way I very clearly laid it out. I am saying I am a liberal in the 2008 sense, before political correctness ran amok. Again: like Bill Maher, Jon Chait, Hugh Hefner, the Kennedy clan, etc. The American Pie movies liberalism. Straight white dudes who are for a libertine society including some of the stuff you guys would they cry as “hurrdurr” or whatever.

Missed edit window: that should read “decry”, not “they cry”, which is what Siri thought I said.

So, not really a liberal, is what you’re saying? Since Maher is*** on record*** as being a libertarian.

I’m sorry, what?

You know, where women know they are sex objects and don’t mouth off too much.

Raunchy, immature, heteronormative, but also rejecting traditional morality and especially moralistic religious doctrine. It’s a real drag to see everyone get so uptight about this kind of cheeky attitude toward life. No one is saying you have to adopt it yourself, but allow the rest of us to let our freak flags fly, please.

And no, Bill Maher said he has been called a libertarian but he does not call himself that. I know more than once he is gone on rants against conservatives who warn of “socialism“, pointing out all the good features of society (schools, fire departments, etc) that are socialistic.

Yeah, dang all those modern liberals trying to be polite!

You apparently don’t remember (NSFW)

And I’m not bending over backwards trying to see a way to justify banning a guy over this.

Siri didn’t understand “decry” but got “hurrdurr”?

That movie was a celebration of male teenage horniness. It’s also about as clichéd example as you could find of the objectification of women. If that’s the direction that you think liberalism needs to go, you should probably bow out. Liberalism is not the place for you.

I doubt anybody will actually miss Shodan or wants him back.

Its just that a horseshit banning is still horseshit even when its given to somebody who had it coming.

I’d respect the mods more if they just came out and said that they were banning these people because they wanted to instead of hiding in the grass waiting for petty crap like this.
