The Batman movies have been getting progressively darker every time it cycles back around. This one looks almost like a straight up horror film from the trailers. Not sure how I feel about that. Batman has always been “dark,” but not quite in that way. I like Batman, and I like horror movies, but I’m not sure I want them combined.
Then again, this thing is purportedly three hours long so I suppose a trailer could be cut that would resemble almost any genre. Just odd they’re going this route with the marketing.
Growing up, I made sure to read two comic books: Batman and Spider-Man. So, yes, I’m looking forward to this one. The best version of Batman from the last thirty years is from Batman: The Animated Series which started airing in 1992. It’s just the right amount of serious while still being accessible for children. But I enjoyed the Nolan movies well enough and I’m willing to give this new one a chance as well even if it’s a little darker in tone.
