The Beatles: Uncovered

Lots of covers of Beatles songs out there. But after all these years some of their songs have escaped reinterpretation. Like, has anyone ever done a *Revolution 9 *cover . . . or Her Majesty? And what others?

A LIVE rendition of Revolution #9 by Alarm Will Sound, and Her Majesty by Chumbawamba.

Since there’s a cover of “You Know My Name, Look Up the Number,” the answer is probably there isn’t one that hasn’t been covered.

Here is an a cappella version of You Know My Name not done by a Beatles cover band.

Phish also did a live interpretation of “Revolution 9” as part of their Halloween '94 cover of the (almost) complete White Album. (Oddly, at least judging by the live CD, they ended it there and did not play “Goodnight.”)

That’s impressive. I was gonna link to Revolution No. Niner by The FarmBeetles.

Bet there’s no “Wild Honey Pie” covers.

EDIT:

fuck how could I forget about the Pixies cover?

UGH!

What qualifies as a cover?

I know whole albums have been performed including the white album, by Robyn Hitchcock. Someone did a whole actual release covering the White album I think as well.

I was gonna put forth their instrumental"Flying" as something uncovered, but I looked it up, and it’s been covered.

I can’t find evidence of any real covers (other than YouTube shit) of “Free as a Bird.”

King Crimson–actually Adrian Belew solo. Belew first performed it onstage on November 18, 1995 in New Haven–the night before the song was officially premiered on the Anthology broadcast.

.

Well, I’ll be danged.

That’s cool. Perhaps Belew meant it as a tribute to Hendrix as well as to the Beatles – Hendrix covered “Sgt. Pepper…” (the song) in a concert just a day after that album was released.

A Harrison number, “The Inner Light” (flipside of “Lady Madonna” single) have individual folks on youtube covering it, but no official release from any bands exists of covering it, as far as I know.

There’s a lovely version sung by Jeff Lynne on the Concert for George album.

I suspect that only a few songs from the Anthology CDs might fit the bill. A quick look seems to show that “12 Bar Original” and “What’s the New Mary Jane” have not yet been covered.
