The best last line of a movie

“Nobody’s Perfect.”

Some Like it Hot

Geez, do I have to do EVERYTHING around here?

“Nobody’s perfect.”

– Osgood Fielding III (Joe E. Brown), responding the Jerry/Daphne’s )Jack Lemmon) revelation that he’s a man, in SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959)

Holy cool simulpost!

You vill PAY for thet, Miz Green Bean, just vait for the NYC party…

Uke

Here are a few. I didn’t identify the more obvious ones.

“Oh, no. It wasn’t the airplanes. 'Twas beauty killed the beast.”

“Shut up and deal.” – THE APARTMENT

“I wouldn’t harm a fly.” – Psycho

“There are eight million stories in the naked city. This was just one of them.”

“Hail Fredonia, home of the brave and free!”

“I steal.” – I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang.

And one of the best exchanges ever:

“I was reading a book the other day.”
<BIG double take> “Reading a book?”
“Yes. It was all about civilization or something. A nutty kind of a book. Do you know that the guy says that machinery is going to take the place of every profession?”
“Oh, my dear, that’s something you need never worry about.” (Dinner at Eight)

“What we have here is failure to communicate.” – Strother Martin, anticipating the Internet.

“Ah, what do you know from funny, you bastards…”

  • Eddie Murphy, “Coming to America”

Esprix, who can’t believe that’s the first movie that came to mind

Ask the Gay Guy!

the second entry from a Mad max movie - this one betond Thunderdome:

“they’ll see the lights, and they’ll be coming home”

Aw, nertz, everybody already got mine (“I steal,” “Nobody’s perfect”). But here’s some others—

“Oh, Gerry—we have the moon, don’t let’s ask for the stars.”
—Bette Davis, “Now, Voyager”

“Mother of mercy, is this the end of Rico?”
—Edw. G. Robinson, “Litle Caesar”

And this great exchange from “Dinner at Eight”—

Jean Harlow: “I was reading a book the other day . . . You know, the guy says that machinery is going to take the place of every profession?”

Marie Dressler (after doing immense double-take): “Oh my dear, that’s something you need NEVER worry about.”

“…and then like that,” whoosh “he’s gone.”

The Usual Suspects

(Something like this)

And if he asks you if you’ve paid your dues, tell him “Yeah, I’ve paid my dues. The check is in the mail.”

Big Trouble in Little China

“Lisa, if you don’t like your job you don’t strike. You just go in every
day and do it really half-assed. That’s the American way!”

Just thought of this one, which was immortalized by Troy McClure in the hit Broadway musical, “Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want to Get Off,”

“Damn you! You blew it up! Damn you all to Hell!”

“Keep watching the skies!”

The Thing (1950s version)

BRAVO for planet of the apes. YOU MANIACS!!! haha

Here’s my small contribution:

“us yellowbeards are never more dangerous than when we’re dead!”

I think there’s more narration, but that’s the last line from a character.

Butch: Wait a minute-- you didn’t see LaForce out there did you?
Sundance: LaForce? No, why?
Butch: Thank God for that. For a moment there I thought we were in trouble.

From Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, natch.
– Sylence

I don’t have an evil side. Just a really, really apathetic one.

“The Day the Earth Stood Still”

Well, sorta.

The story that provided the basis for this movie (“Farewell to the Master”) had a great surprise last line in it that was not included in the movie.

I’ll not repeat it here, though, lest it spoil the surprise ending for anyone who hasn’t read the story.

The End
?

Can’t remember if it was from a bad 50s sci-fi movie, or a parody of a bad 50s sci-fi movie, though.

I understand all the words, they just don’t make sense together like that.

The End
?[\quote]

From The Blob, of course

And as “Nobody’s perfect” (Some Like It Hot) cannot possibly be topped, I don’t think I’ll play.
