The Best Movie You Never Want to Watch Again

Alice, that’s just the movie I came in here to add. The scene with the baby… woah.

Leaving Las Vegas
The Last of the Mohicans
The Passion of the Christ

Gerry gets an honorable mention here.

The Road made me want to jump off a cliff. Loved it, no desire to watch again.

When I first saw Se7en, I said it was the best movie I never wanted to see again. However, I have seen it several times.

I don’t understand this one. I’ve seen it a number of times, and it is nothing like most of the films mentioned. It is not an unremitting pain-fest - it has moments of humor (“My name is Walker - haw!”), sweet romance (Gandhi and his wife), triumph (particularly the “I will not pay one Rupee” scene) that perfectly counter-balance the violence that Gandhi and Indian people suffered in their heroic struggle. Yes, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre shocks and appalls, as it should, but not enough to avoid watching the film.

No idea why this should be lumped in with many of the other films mentioned.

American Me.

Just left me feeling so hopeless.

I know I’m late getting back, and I’m on my phone so no fancy links, but films that I’ve shown to others which engender the “thanks but never again” reaction include

Dead Ringers
Santa Sangre
White of the Eye
Tetsuo: Iron Man
Videodrome

Yes. Yes yes yes. I agree with infinitii that practically the entire Lars Von Trier catalog will do it for me.

Schindler’s List
and
Brokeback Mountain

Both of which have already been mentioned.

We bought the DVD for Brokeback Mountain but still haven’t watched it. I have a feeling that only one of us will. :frowning:

Mellish (Adam Goldberg)'s death scene is much more disturbing to me than the opening scene.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I can guarantee I won’t be reading the book again anytime soon.

The Wizard of Oz is still a good movie no matter what kind of tv you watch it on, don’t know if Avatar can say the same.

Anywho…

I nominate We Were Soldiers because that movie left me so emotionally drained I just wanted to fall over.

and

American Beauty because I felt so depressed after watching it that I wanted to jump off a bridge. Ugh. I don’t get why people like that movie.

I’ve been trying to see Inland Empire again in years. I just get a little discomforted by the feeling of discomfort at the time. So, I move on.

Just saw Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead on Netflix streaming and it fits this thread beautifully…

Same here. I walked out on it in the theater because I couldn’t handle it. I’ve watched it once since then, but I have no desire to ever see it again.

Downfall. Utterly amazing. Cannot bring myself to put the DVD in the player ever again.

This is much my reaction to the numerous mentions of The Elephant Man. Sure he’s deformed & some people treat him cruelly, but it’s so much more about compassion & inner nobility & after a while, you just get used to how he looks.

That film has a special place in my heart as it was the first film I saw with my wife. We were both emotional wrecks by the end. It has been years since I’ve seen it, but would gladly watch it again, and if it plays at the Gene Siskel Film Center will definitely go see it.

Some films (and songs) make such a deep impression on me that I have a physical reaction just recalling particular scenes. John Hurt is justly praised for his work as John Merrick, but Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Frederick Treves was equally impressive in it’s own way. Just reading through the IMDB Quotes page has got me choked up, particularly this line:

Dr. Frederick Treves: *Am I a good man? Or a bad man? *

Apocalypto. It was good, powerful, epic, bloody. I never want to watch it again. I want to see **Titanic **again but I think of how it all went down(heh) and I just can’t do it.

I’m going to make the kids watch Der Untergang, if nothing else for that one popular scene

The Princess Bride. I’ve seen it so many times I don’t want to see it again. OK that and when Inigo Montoya asks the six fingered man for his father back it’s always choked me up just a little.

I’ve never seen this movie or heard of it. What’s the scene?

The movie is about the last days of Hitler’s life. The scene in question has Hitler completely losing his shit in anger. It’s been parodied many many times, juxtaposing Hitler’s tirade with the notion that he is really angry about things like Hillary Clinton, getting banned from XBox Live, etc.

Some have already been mentioned.

One hasn’t - Boogie Nights.

Great movie. I never want to see it again.
