I’m a Democrat registered as and masquerading as an (kidding myself mainly) Independent - as I vote Dem probably 80% of the time and almost always in the national races.
I could live with McCain.

I abhor all the Pubbie candidates’ policy positions, but among them McCain seems to be the least personally evil man. However, with the Republicans personal qualities don’t really matter – no matter who you vote for to be Sauron, his administration is still gonna be staffed by orcs.

I’m thinking Romney, BECAUSE he has no “stand fast” principles, kinda like Bill Clinton. He’ll make deals that he doesn’t personally like. Plus I think his platform will completely change after getting his party’s nomination – I would count on him to betray the Republican hard right wing.
As a Democrat I would prefer Chuck Hagel if he were still running. Among those still in the race, I prefer Mike Huckabee.
As an independent who usually votes Democratic, if I had to pick a Republican, uh, urggh, maybe Rudy. Needs a better hair stylist though.
