I have a cousin who lives in North Carolina and wants to visit her grandmother, an aunt of mine, in Fresno. My brother says she can travel on a particular airline to SFO, but the airline doesn’t fly to Fresno. What’s the best way for my cousin, whom I’ll call Karen, to travel? Thanks very much.
There’s a number of airlines that service Fresno’s airport, but frankly, I think the prices are generally rather high. Check out http://www.fresno.gov/flyfresno/airlines.asp
I’d recommend renting a car and driving. It’s about a three hour trip.
Driving is the only way to go.
Or Amtrak.
Amtrak’s about 5 hours, many of which are by bus. Driving is more like 3 hours. See Mapquest for details.

I would fly to Sacramento and take a rental car south on Rt. 99 to Fresno, about 175 miles. Otherwise she is going to get into massive traffic going from San Francisco. Also, coming out of Sacramento try to time it so it’s after 10am and before 3pm when she getting on Rt. 99. I don’t recommend Rt. 5 because even though it’s 4 lanes it is always crowded. Rt. 99 is only two lanes in places, but a lot less traffic. As you find out if you live in CA, the East-West highways are severely lacking or non-existent, esp north.
Thanks to all. I’ll pass this info on.
