The Biden Administration - the first 1,500 days [NOT an Afghanistan discussion]

Okay, that makes sense.

Biden has reportedly given Erdogan the unwelcome news in a phone call.

"In a readout of the call, the White House said Biden “convey[ed] his interest in a constructive bilateral relationship with expanded areas of cooperation and effective management of disagreements.”

“Oh, and about that genocide thing…”

It’s doubtful this will have much practical importance, apart from spotlighting the evils of genocide denial and further marginalizing its practitioners.

Stock up on Nutella.

And Turkish taffy?

Do you mean Turkish delight?

What, you think we are in narnia?

Who do these Turks think they are? Americans?

The VP does her best, in this twitter video, to help a man struggling to give a short speech. Kind of a contrast to “I am so much smarter than everyone”.

From NBC News: Poll: At 100 days, Biden's approval remains strong. Can the honeymoon last?

And see:

I think Biden might be in a similar situation that Obama was with his approval - right now everyone knows we are in a crisis, and it’s evident to a lot of people that Biden is at the very least taking it much more seriously than his predecessor.

The honeymoon period will end once there is more of a sense that we are in a recovery rather than a crisis, and I think his approval is going to be more tied to how much people feel the recovery is stagnant vs. how much they feel like it’s moving fast enough.

There was no “honeymoon”. When you compare to previous presidents, most of them started out at +30 or higher (net approval - disapproval). Joe the President started out at +17 and has dropped maybe 3 but looks quite steady, really. No other president has stayed in that upper range for very long but slid rather steadily down. To me, it looks like, by starting low, Joe is already near his stable position and will probably not lose much over time (though he is 23 points higher than his predecessor was 4 years ago).

Sing it, baby!

During the first hundred days of Joe Biden’s presidency, it has dawned on Republicans that the man their standard-bearer once mocked as “Sleepy Joe” is a formidable adversary. And the quality that has made him so effective up to this point is, well, his sleepiness. “I think Biden is a disaster for the country, and his ideas are an atrocity. But he’s boring. He’s just boring,” complained alt-media personality Dan Bongino. This frustration is not confined to the party’s entertainment wing. “It’s always harder to fight against a nice person because usually people will sort of give him the benefit of the doubt,” grumbled Senator John Cornyn. At a recent speech to donors, Donald Trump was reduced to mocking his successor as “Saintly Joe Biden,” perhaps the feeblest moment in his decades-long career of schoolyard taunts.

Biden’s success is a product of the crucial yet little-appreciated insight that substantive advances don’t require massive public fights.

Ya think?

The Republicans during the election kept harping that “Joe’s old!” Joe is responding by declaring: “yeah, I’m old. In fact, I’m too old. Too old to put up with your BS.”

My local NPR station has created a “report card” on Biden’s first 100 days in office, comparing what he has achieved to what he promised on the campaign trail. As you would expect, it is a mixed bag.

Another take along those lines: Biden's first 100 days: Where he stands on key promises [Video]

Well, what about DJT’s promise to Make America Great Again-- how did he do on that? Does being first in the world in COVID deaths count?

The AP has the original source article with helpful graphics:

Good graphic, but lousy header.

“25 promises kept out of 61 promises” makes it sound like for the most part he hasn’t been doing the things he said he would. In fact, in all but three of the promises he has made progress in that direction. In some of these in particular, progress was the promise. For example “Take steps to conserve 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030” it’s not 2030 yet. In one case he made every effort to complete the promise but was blocked by the courts. So in my glass half full view, I think he’s doing quite well.
