The Big Bang Season Finale 5/19--The Roommate Transmogrification

I thought it was OK. I totally saw Raj and Penny coming, from the second Raj and Leonard switched flats. Why wouldn’t she like Raj? He’s the best looking of the guys and he is nice.

I don’t see Penny’s drinking as an issue. If she was a guy getting drunk and sleeping around no one would care. I have a bigger problem with Raj depending on alcohol to talk.

This is getting too much like Friends where the various members of the groups are interdating. For God’s sake they live in Southern California there must be tons of people outside their clique.

I also wonder about the money. The writers don’t seem to have a decent understanding of what these guys make. Sure they’re not rich but they can’t be as broke as they seem to be. I mean what does Howard have to spend his money on? Is his mother charging him rent? If so how much?

How does Bernadette, suddenly have enough money to buy a Rolex? I know there is such a thing as a sign on bonus, but you get that after you work for a bit. Bernadette seems to be working her way through college (and just finished this)

I also don’t buy Penny being regretful about breaking up with Leonard. Why? She didn’t seem to like him much when they were dating, and there’s no real motivation for her woefullness now. It comes across as forced.

Yes, I can see that. It kind of sounds like a scenario you’d expect on Laverne and Shirley or Three’s Company. It will probably be a night of zany and almost implausible circumstances that all ends up quite innocent.

Raj’s immediate and forceful nodding would seem to indicate that “It” didn’t actually happen. He didn’t look at all crestfallen, which he certainly would if he’d really thought he was movign forward with Penny. Most likely he was too drunk to close. (Or she called him Leonard and he stopped?)

And I think Leonard’s reaction indicated more emotion than would be appropriate for a man who was serious about his current girlfriend.

Priya is either pregnant, or a complete @$$hole. I haven’t figured out which yet. Or she’s a total fraud across the board, and we’re about to find out she was never even a lawyer. . .

“Yes it is, it always is, it’s India.”

That is what I was thinking, as well. They didn’t actually have sex, they just think that they did. Or something like that…

I don’t think she had anything like a black-out. They had two bottles of wine intended to be shared between three people, and ended up drinking them between two. I wouldn’t drink four glasses of wine at a sitting on a regular basis, but I’m not sure this counts as a “binge,” and I don’t see anything that suggested she didn’t remember sleeping with Raj - she was just incredulous in the morning.

For sure it wasn’t merely drunkenness that put her in the sack with him. Sure, she was loosened up a bit, but she was genuinely bonding with Raj and in a vulnerable state because of her regrets about dumping Leonard. "Gee, I miss that guy, with his self-deprecating humour, and his gentle, almost feminine energy, and his Star Wars bedsheets. Wait, what do we have here?

I thought it was a great episode & finale, anyway - my wife and I were both in hysterics. Sheldon’s “massage” from Amy Farrah Fowler - genius. Jim Parsons is the best.

OMG yes! I forgot to mention that!

They seem to be setting up AFF as a truly amazing lover. Who’da thunk it? It’s like some bar bet that the writer is about to win.

“OK, so she’s plain, scientific, probably Aspberger’s, and I have to make the whole audience want to sleep with her?” :: Mr. Burns hands ::

I don’t think so. It’s already been established that Raj is actually a smoove playa when he’s had a few drinks (or thinks he has).

The Hangover? documented through cell phones pictures?

I think that was just way too much crammed into a single episode – it seemed a bit like the writers suddenly realized the end of the season was drawing near, and they hadn’t really set anything up to carry over the viewership into the next, and then, in a frantic brainstorming session, just decided to go with all ideas at once to see what sticks – Raj sleeping with Penny, Priya and Leonard separating, trouble with Howard and Bernadette, and all the other little issues, like Howard not having a PhD, Penny still pining after Leonard etc. Individually, I’m not sure I have a problem with any of the developments, but thrown together like that, it all just came out as a bit of a mess.

Raj: Leonard’s having astronomically inaccurate Star Trek sex with my sister.
Sheldon: I can see how that would be upsetting.

Heh.

Priya: “I can’t believe I’m having sex while wearing my brother’s Halloween costume.”
Leonard: “I can’t believe you think Raj only wears that on Halloween.”

Yeah, this was my thought as well.

I’m hoping so too.

Wasn’t a great season finale.

The show can’t have jumped the shark with this episode in the original context of the term. If there is a significant drop in the quality that can be traced back to this episode, you might be right but knowing a show jumped the shark is a retroactive observation.

“I could just as easily have paralyzed you.”

I liked this episode. The show was getting a bit staid, this shakes things up. There’s no proof that Raj and Penny had sex, I’m not now/never have been a problem drinker or anywhere close (honestly can’t remember my last drink- it’s been weeks if not months) but in my own limited experience with reeling drunks I’ve shared beds with people- other gay men even- and nothing happened. (And once or twice when it did happen, but they were cuter.) Still- too drunk to have any inhibitions around Penny would probably mean too drunk to perform in Raj’s case.

Though personally I would have Penny somewhat repulsed by it because she’s Raj, a guy with many neuroses who she’s never been attracted to, but at the same point attracted because it was the best sex she ever had.

I agree that it was a simple boff of opportunity, but it may be worth noting that in this very episode, Leonard qualified his assent to Raj’s bringing women to the apartment with “…but not against their will.”

You do realize that that the same company that produces TBBT also produces** Two and a Half Men**? Compared to Charlie, Penny is a tea-totaling virgin.

I wonder why Howard doesn’t doesn’t go back to school part time get a PhD? He is already at Cal-Tech and he could probably base a dissertation on one of his NASA projects.

So, no talking about killing someone from Amy this episode, but this was close. I liked Sheldon’s self-massage (said in Craig Ferguson’s voice) - that was totally his O face. It was a little jarring to go from Sheldon talking about massaging his own neck as being too much touching, then they broadcast the premiere episode where Leonard indicates that Sheldon masturbates frequently. I’ll just ignore the inconsistencies as usual.

Don’t forget - Penny’s a big ol’ five for sexually aggressive.

I was joking. There’d be now way that Raj could be a date rapist and still be on a comedy.

I was actually thinking the same thing on a number of occasions, but you might wanna cut the writers some slack - it was just a throwaway line in the pilot at a stage when the characters weren’t fully fleshed out yet.

Gotta say, not the best episode in recent times - and I will join those hoping that it will actually all turn out to be a huge misunderstanding. Hope that they bring AFF back in the next season, how great was that episode with the rumors?
