The Big Bang Theory 5/12--The Engagement Reaction

Mrs. Wolowitz ends up in the hospital after Howard tells her he’s marrying Bernadette.

Do we finally get to see Mrs. Wolovitz? I hope not. But I can’t imagine anyone yelling at their mother (from another room).

“Hey Ma! Bernadette and I got engaged”

Bernadette has some kamocas choholes going on.

“Don’t fall asleep or you’ll never hear the end of it.”

Funny you should say that…

Bernadette: “I have to go to the toilet!
Howard: “Is it just me or does she sound sexy when she’s angry?”
Everyone: (exchange disgusted looks)

Bernadette sounded JUST like Mrs Wolowitz when she said that, right? It wasn’t just me?

Nope, that’s the joke. Well, that and Howard’s uncomfortably Oedipal response.

I liked Raj being a bit more interesting, and capable, a character – he’s been the punching bag of the show for too long, to see him actually getting some punches of his own in was rather satisfying.

But, I’m going to need some explanation of the vanity card again – is it still about the Sheen thing? Was that really that much of a life changing event?

Wait a freaking minute…Didn’t Sheldon take Penny to the emergency room with no anguish the time she slipped in the shower and dislocated her sholder? If the writers cannot remember that, then they are each and every one of them a putz.

That complete and utter major inconsistancy spoiled the entire episode for me. Though I did love Bernadette at the end.

Sheldon needn’t be consistent. I had no problem with him having different concerns at different times, and, in fact, this makes him MORE obssessive/compulsive – he’s added another layer – rather than less. I’d think it was more of an inconsistency if some phobia had vanished. Alternate explanation: the hospital visit comes right after him drinking from Leonard’s glass, so the concept of germs and infection were foremost in his mind. That would exaggerate his germ-o-phobia. In short, li’l inconsistencies don’t bother me in the least.

Yes. “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”, as Emerson said, and Sheldon’s is not a little mind.

I was actually wondering if he’d happen to read something or some topic of conversation came up with AFF that got Sheldon into a preoccupation with infectious diseases before the whole glass thing started. He is definitely the sort of character whose reactions can be influenced in a big way by something small.

When Leonard was dating that doctor, Sheldon also showed up at the hospital to have all sorts of tests run on him. Though I suppose it’s hard to say if that’s an inconsistency or just a different manifestation of the same germ phobia…

“Out of the way dead man walking.” was brilliant. I rewound and watched the restuarant scene four times.

“I gargled with tequila. I may have swallowed some. I love you so much.”

…Had me on the floor. My favorite line of the night.

I also liked the doctor, “You brought a Catholic girl home to your mother? How about I write you a prescription for Xanax…”

Oh, and Penny’s advice “Don’t fall asleep…you’ll never hear the end of it.”

My biggest problem was a biohazard containment area would certainly not be off a main hallway, and have a lock of some sort on the door.

Sheldon was already wound up from his accidental contact with the germs of his disgusting companions, which is why he exhibited hospital-phobia in this episode.

And Leonard later - “I’m the king of foreplay.”

WHAT???

Look, you try googling the proper spelling of that. It’s a bizarre way of referring to sweater puppies. You know - gazongas.

That was a funny exchange. It’s also funny that you (silenus) mention that because I had that same thought myself. Has she always been that chesty?

Yes, she mimic’s Howard’s mom really well.
