There were a series of articles he wrote detailing the filming of lots of early TNG episodes. He went into great detail about all the derision & hatred he got from Star Trek fans, and that was pre-internet days.
I’m having trouble finding them - apparently tvsquad.com was consumed by huffingtonpost, and the articles aren’t around anymore.
I thought it was a bit odd that Sheldon, being extremely pedantic about how science progresses, would not have been so hard on Leonard because he clearly would have realized it would have been found it pretty soon anyway that his element did not exist.
What I expected to happen was Leonard get all the praise that was going to Sheldon, but that never really materialized (just the radio interview).
Meh. Mediocre episode in my book. Really getting tired of Raj and his feminine side. The show feels like it’s getting stale, and the writers are just phoning it in. Same character quirks repeated over and over again, loosely tied together with wispy little threads of plot.
This is my problem with the whole series. I have no idea why Bernadette would settle for someone like Howard. And to believe that Amy would still be with someone like Sheldon, we have to assume that her self-confidence is zero. Leonard/Penny aren’t the perfect couple, but at least they have enough in common to be realistic.
I agree with Oakminster that the last few episodes seem to just be hitting the same character tropes without providing anything new or interesting. At least the Thanksgiving episode had some good gags.
Yeah, the show isn’t much for positive male role models. The intellectuals are immature wimps and ninnies, the physically attractive types are immature morons or bullies (Penny’s exes, to an extent Bernie’s dad), and the one person to combine intellect and physical attractiveness was a cheating creep (motorcycle physicist guy). Pickings are mighty slim in Pasadena.
Yes. “Shamy” made sense back when Amy was written as an oddball female version of Sheldon. But the writers have gradually sculpted her into the voice of sanity, so it’s got to be a matter of time before she wises up and dumps his geeky ass. Besides, her friendship with Penny and Bernadette is teaching her social confidence - the “Penny and Bernie give Amy a makeover/turn her into a hottie” episode is inevitable.
(Shades of Wheaton.) Did you not see The Habitation Configuration? Amy was batcrap crazy directing a Fun with Flags episode with guest Wil Wheaton. Quite a few things like that. She gets as illogically rigid as the rest of them at times.
BtW, in explaining to Mrs. FtG who Wil Wheaton was when he first appeared in this episode, I explained how tremendously hated he was on ST:TNG. The subsequent scene nicely dovetailed with that.
a few random thoughts…
I didn’t remember that Sheldon had a brother. Man that guy needs to make a cameo on the show! You could do all sort of funny things with that character. All of Sheldon’s friends and coworkers put up with his shit because they feel they more-or-less have to. A brother would call him out no matter what. I could be very satisfied seeing an episode where Sheldon’s brother sits on Sheldon and farts on him or something.
I too think think you could get some good mileage out of Penny getting a role as a scientist/physicist type character. It couldn’t last too long though (ala Joey on Friends).
Weird Eccentric Sheldon = funny. Mean Asshole Sheldon = Not Funny.
I’m in agreement with not liking Howard being a shitty husband. He should begin every morning of his life washing her feet while thanking her for entering his life! :o
