The Big Bang Theory 2/2--The Friendship Contraction

Leonard can’t take Sheldon’s continued selfishness. Howard wants to have a cool nickname for when he’s an astronaut.

Buzz Wolowitz?

Meh.
That’s the most I can muster for tonight’s episode.

At least we learned that Sheldon is 30.
mmm

Disappointing. I’ve only recently discovered this show and have been catching up with the syndicated episodes. Tonight’s episode is the worst I’ve ever seen. Had this been my first look at the series, I wouldn’t watch another.

Ha ha. You naysayers. I thought it was a better than average episode.

it had some good laugh lines. the overall show held together. also think better than average.

Best of the season, certainly.

I thought I was watching a syndicated episode I’d happened to miss until the ‘relationship beta test’ line…that’s how much better than the rest of the season it was.

That was just awful.

Worst of the season, in my opinion. Amy and Bernadette had nothing to do. Raj’s “brown dynamite” was as annoying as JJ Walker’s “dyn-o-MITE”. Howard kind of phoned it in. Leonard and Penny is getting to be Ross and Rachel redux. For God’s sake, let’s get her naked, sweaty, and exhausted with pleasure. Sheldon was a cartoon character. Very poorly done by all concerned.

Better than average. Leonard finally puts his foot down (temporarily). We’ll see if Sheldon learns anything from it. I doubt it.

Good lines from Penny all episode. Especially the one about not using a girlfriend for what everybody else uses one for, and Sheldon’s expression as he tries to figure out what she means.

One of my favourites this season, mainly because of Amy and Bernadette having nothing to do. With the episode pretty much restricted to the original five main characters, it felt like it could have aired during seasons 1 - 3.

“They were having fun the wrong way.” My favorite line and some insight into Sheldon.

I don’t think I’ve ever badmouthed BBT, but ISTM if they had aired this episode earlier in the series they could have been done with the Roommate Agreement gag much earlier. I was really disappointed in the show when Leonard went back to go sign it and Penny’s urging, assuming that the ending of the contract was just a lapse. I’m glad they didn’t go there. It had a good run, hopefully they’ll be done with it now.

Also, did anyone else noticed the QR code at the comic book store? I tried to scan it. My phone ‘saw’ it but couldn’t read it.

I loved that line!

The episode wasn’t one of the best, but it was at least mildly entertaining…

“Canada is not going to invade California!”

“You think those hippies in Oregon and Washington will be able to stop them?”

I love it when Sheldon’s Texas roots show, no matter how subtly.

That was very funny! I am fairly certain that Sheldon has revealed his disdain for hippies several times, but right now, i can’t think of the specific situations / episodes.

He said something like that to Leonard when he was interviewing for the position of roommate.

*Past Sheldon: Last question. In a post-apocalyptic world, which task would you assign the highest priority? Locating a sustainable food source, re-establishing a functioning government, procreating, or preserving the knowledge of mankind?

Past Leonard: Uh, I’m gonna go with preserving the knowledge.

Past Sheldon: That’s correct. FYI, I would have accepted any answer other than procreating. Come, I’ll show you the rest of the apartment.

Past Leonard: Oh, good. I passed the barriers.

Past Sheldon: The second barrier. Don’t get cocky. This is the bathroom. Are you fairly regular?

Past Leonard: Uh, I guess.

Past Sheldon: This isn’t going to work if you’re guessing. When do you evacuate your bowels?

Past Leonard: When I have to.

Past Sheldon: When you have to? I’m sorry, I don’t rent to hippies.*

this episode seemed like something the writers had originally sealed in the “break in case of emergency” glass for when they run out of ideas.

Yeah, it was pretty lame, though sufficiently out of context with anything else (other than the beta test line) that it felt like a spec script they just plugged in to fill a hole).

It felt like we’ve been through the battle over the Roommate Agreement several times in the last couple seasons and that feels tired.

And whenever Leonard caves to some truly stupid and obnoxious behavior by Sheldon, it makes me like him less. Special spot on the couch, sure. Hyper regular schedules ok. Getting up at 2 in the morning to pretend there’s been an earthquake and then an expectation of chauffeuring without any regard to personal schedule, Leonard’s just a spineless wimp.

Maybe it is time for a room rearrangement a la friends. Get over the will they/won’t they will Penngy/Sheldon and move them in together next season. Move Raj into the apartment with Sheldon (though I do like that despite his social problems, Raj has the most independent living arrangement of them all) and flex the group dynamics.
