I thought Leonard at the lecture, wearing a tan (corduroy?) jacket and blue shirt looked a lot like Carl Sagan
I shudder to think what Disney Land would charge to let you keep the costumes. Bernadette and probably Amy could swing it as a rare expensive impulse buy but it would have to be a serious dent in the coffers of a Cheesecake Factory waitress whose broke-ness has been a plot point in some episodes.

So is banging a Disney princess really a fetish for a significant number of straight guys? (I can see banging a Disney prince- they’re usually pretty gorgeous- but only if they have the Disney prince physique and cheekbones, and then I’d be in lust with them regardless of what they were wearing.)
Sheldon established this mathematically on his first date with Amy.

Because Bernadette wasn’t having any of it (also, seeing a trio of Cinderellas hanging out with each other at Disneyland would have been nearly as creepy as Sheldon googling “How do I get 12-year-old girls excited?”

Penny was Princess Aurora, A.K.A. Sleeping Beauty

She can get a dress like that at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique (at various Disney locations).
ETA: It does not appear to be available in an adult size at the Pawtucket Disney Store. Sorry.
I would think a full time (assuming Penny works that much) server at a Cheesecake Factory (they’re not cheap) in the L.A. area would make some pretty decent coin (though I’ll agree that a Disney Princess makeover would be a major expense). Any CF servers here that can verify?
Missed the edit window for this one:
ETA again: Also, the Disneyland website does limit it to kids from 3 - 12.
Oh, that was a great scene! I need to re-watch that episode.
Even if that’s true Penny has the money managment skills of Carrie Bradshaw. Once her parents finally cut her she’ll be forced to marry Leonard to avoid living in a cardboard box filled with her own shoes. The writers really should give her an acting job in some Asylum mockbuster or ridiculous SyFy original move that somehow get’s made into an equally cheesy TV series. You just know that now matter how bad it is Penny would be super excited & take it very seriously and Amy would start some kind of fan club. Sheldon of course would be driven mad over the poor writing and bad science.
My wife had informed me that this is a fairly recent development. I guess that Disney discovered that it is easier to get parents to drop obscene amounts of cash on their kids vs themselves. From the crowds there when we were dropping the cash for our little treasure they were right.
Here you go.
That would be awesome. You should get yourself hired as a writer.
I loved the episode. The Disney Princesses and the guys trying to convince the girls to be scientists, especially Leonard telling his life story to the girls.
Rajs’ date with Garfunkel or Oates was kind of lame. But I think her character is a hoot and last night I was thinking maybe she is going to be used to eventually get Raj to start being able to talk around women. I can’t really think of any other use for her. All the other guys have girls so it’s time for Raj to get one too and she would be the perfect girl to get him to start talking.
My favorite part was Amy telling the other girls about how she was able to get out of work for the Disneyland trip.
Sheldon is normally clueless, so I was impressed that he thought of talking to middle-school students about science, and then that he brought in Amy and Bernadette to talk to them, instead of the three very nerdy guys. (Although I still imagine that a lot of people must be impressed by Howard’s experience on the ISS.)
I thought it was pretty clever. Also liked his line about the big dude climbing back up a beanstalk.
I personally think Raj and Lucy’s date is part of the writer’s trying to rehabilitate Raj.
I know we dopers have gone back and forth on who is the biggest toolbag on the show, but personally I think it has been Raj the past few seasons. Raj trying to have a real relationship not based on sex or money but on emotional attraction would be a major piece of character development for (IMHO) one of the more underdeveloped characters on the show.
I think they overdid Penny’s sluttiness this time around, although it was funny. Penny is general I think gets overdone even more than the nerd stereotyping - whether she’s a drunk, a slut, broke, or what have you. Her character can show nuance sometimes (like when she’s nervous about commitment to Leonard, who let’s face it is orders of magnitude better than her other boyfriends) but the writers go back to the old tropes too much.
And serious, no episode could possibly have enough of Bernadette. Rawr.
The AAAS has been a vocal advocate of this concept for decades. (Small .pdf.)
Here’s something a little more current, but since Sheldon was about ten years old in 1993, I’m sure he read the issue in the first link, after he cursed them for not publishing his paper on low-budget magnetic resonance imaging in house cats.
Regarding schticks, they’ve also dialed down the AFF platonic lust factor by several orders of magnitudes.
Poor Amy. The other two girls had their men disrobing at the sight of them as princesses. She needs a man who will give her some lovin’.
I wonder if she’s watched any of the Star Trek TNG DVDs Sheldon gave her. In only episode 3 of the first season, she’d could get some ideas on how to seduce a robot. Sheldon has previously claimed he has genital that are fully functional and aesthetically pleasing, Amy needs to go all Tasha Yar on him and make him prove it.
I think the romantic dinner she had with Sheldon at her place shows that Amy’s got game, and could totally seduce Sheldon if she wanted. While she sometimes would like him to be more assertive, she seems content with the progress of her 5 year time-table.
I actually found the guys’ reaction to the princess outfits kind of creepy myself.
Agreed. When Bernadette and Howard did it, I was amused because it seemed to be Bernadette’s idea. But then they showed Leonard practically jump out of his clothes at the sight of Penny in her costume and I was like :dubious:
Is that really a thing?
I could understand it if there was a skimpy outfit involved, like Pocahontas, or Kida from Atlantis. And I’ve always liked Belle, because she’s the nerdiest of the bunch. Otherwise I can’t see what they were getting so excited about. Frankly it was a little bit creepy as they were each dressed like tween girls.
