Yes, this! Someone else in a previous thread mentioned that it was about time that Penny had some success. I mean, I like looking at her and all, but she needs to have something more to do than just being a waitress
On cable, so it doesn’t pay that much. Wouldn’t be right for her to be like Bernie and make lots more than her sweetie. And her costume should show a lot of cleavage and leg.
Secondary plot down the line could have Raj buying a stake in the comic book store. That would bring Stuart back.
Why just Raj? All 4 of them can go in for a joint partnership.
I hope Lucy’s gone for good, couldn’t stand her character. And I feel that her one-note characterization pretty much sums up the worst aspects of this series: “Oh, look, she’s so socially anxious she’s jumping out the window in the bathroom! Again! (cue studio audience that sounds like a laugh track)”
And now for my prediction : Raj will only be able to speak with the 3 regular girls on the show. Any other woman, he will still be mute.
That’s really good idea- especially combined with Penny’s Sci-Fi gig because then there would be another argument to bring her coworkers by the store. It would also lead to some awkwardness in Leonard trying to leverage/beg her to bring them by or allow access.
The only other big events for the coming year are Amy and Sheldon getting physical, Leonard and Penny getting engaged, and Raj getting a real girlfriend.
Some other fun things to throw in would be meeting Howard’s mother and return visits by the other parents.
Things I hope that are ruled out for next year and forever:
- children
- Penny and Leonard breaking up again - sure tension about the engagement/wedding/future but breaking up is too far unless it is clearly the end of them.
You know, the whole show has always been Leonard wanting something from Penny. I kinda think it would be better to change that up a bit; have Penny finally wanting something from Leonard. Maybe have Leonard be the science adviser on some blockbuster movie and Penny wants him to introduce her to the director.
TV show works better than movie for that. You get a longer time frame, smaller things to play with, the ability to do a “rinse, repeat” approach to things, more guest stars, etc.
Sheldon would be funnier as the science advisor but he’d never do it, and nobody would be crazy enough to ask him. Although his continual critiquing of Leonard’s advice to the show could be funny as well.
You hear that, Chuck? There’s your next two seasons, no charge.
Hey, it was my idea! But you’re probably right that it would work better to have Leonard working on a TV show rather than a movie.
Raj has the disposable income. Sheldon would analyze the viability and find it’s not good, Bernadette wouldn’t allow Howard to waste money on it, and Leonard’s likely saving for a dream wedding to Penny. And Raj is meddlesome enough to go too far changing things around.
Penny landing a role on a low-budget sci-fi show is the best bet for interesting stories. It gives her a modicum of success and fame, opportunities for all sorts of conflict. Leonard’s reaction to her doing love scenes, the gang’s dislike of scientific inaccuracies on the show while Penny is blase about it. How would the guys react to Penny appearing at Comic-Con? Or Penny giving a great interview about sci-fi by parroting stuff she’s heard the guys say over the years rather than what she really thinks/knows? Next season’s cliffhanger would write itself (Penny has to move to Canada with the show).
How are we going to get the writers to pick up the Penny-SciFi connection? How could they have missed this? Don’t they read the Dope?
If one of you puts this idea on Reddit, and it hits the front page, the producers may somehow have a chance of hearing about it.
There seems to be a subreddit for BBT, but it only has 18,000 members, so not likely to hit the front page.
Worth a try though.
I like the idea of having Penny getting some sort of “Seven of Nine-ish” role on a space opera. I like it even more if Wil Wheaton plays her love interest on the show.
What would happen if Penny borrowed enough money to buy an interest in the comic book store? She’s not doing all that well as either an actress or a waitress, so maybe it’s time for her to find out that there is something she’s good at. She’s socially savvy, her mere presence would pull in customers, and she might be able to come up with marketing strategies that would involve various geeky celebrities.
Chuck Lorre isn’t necessarily the ear you want to bend. Bill Prady is probably a better person to target.
If anyone still cares, Cousin Oliver’s line was, “Gosh, it was just a suggestion”.
mmm
It does seem funny that there has been little interaction between Penny and Wil Wheaton other than in the bowling alley. He’s an established actor and she’s an aspiring actress, and it never occurs to her to see if he can help? I guess Penny isn’t supposed to ‘get’ networking.
Well, until Wil and Sheldon “made up,” her loyalty to her friends would supersede her desire to network with “the only kid from “Stand By Me” who never made it.”
Maybe if they can get Raj to talk, they can also get Penny to stop doing the duckface.
Penny should get a role on the television adaptation of Galaxy Quest. She could play the character who repeats the computer.
