The Big Bang Theory, May 8, 2014 -- "The Gorilla Dissolution"

Raj was one of People Magazine’s “30 Under 30.” That ought to help somewhat, so long as he applies for visa renewal in LA.

We learned in this episode that Sheldon isn’t being clueless on the subject, he’s actively avoiding coitus. Another step toward his complete progression to being a failed human being. They can’t let him go completely down that path, so I’m betting that his crisis in physics and crisis in the humanities will be solved together. That’ll probably include Amy because she’s not going to be dropped from the show.

After doing some more Googling I was going to post this, but I see you beat me to it. That’s probably the VISA Kunal Nayyar has in real life and Raj has in the show.

Dang, I didn’t know there were so many types of VISAs.

I watched an interview with Jim Parsons from a year or two ago where he said that he was rooting for Sheldon and Amy. Given how painfully slow their relationship has progressed and how most of us stopped or are ready to stop caring about it I wonder if he’s losing interest as well. I know people stay in relationships that aren’t good for them, but it’s not fun to watch. The writers either need to have Sheldon start acting more loving towards Amy or have Amy dump his sorry ass.

Didn’t she dump him once and he spiraled down into a major depression and seven cats?

Uh, ftg, beanless chili is Sheldon’s Texan reality.

TriPolar what if Amy and Sheldon end up being the couple to have a kid, by surrogate, because it involves some scientific finagling that Sheldon wants to try? (His new field.)

Yup, named them after scientists from the Manhattan Project. Oh, and Zazzles, cuz he was so sassy.

Yup, they were arguing over their respective fields on which one was more important.

The writers want a stagnant relationship between Sheldon and Amy. They only added the kissing recently to keep viewers from losing interest completely. But stringing along the audience isn’t going to work forever. I’ve been wanting Amy to dump Sheldon for a while now. Maybe if they worked in hugging and hand holding it would start to look like a normal relationship and get my interest in them as a couple back.

That’s possible, but Amy wants some hot monkey coitus, it doesn’t make sense she’ll carry the relationship much further without any.

Maybe Amy should grow fur all over like Penny’s. That sure worked for Leonard.

From this scene, Amy has at least 5 lbs of fur. They had to go out and restock on wax.

If the bitching so offends you, don’t read the thread.

Except that the thread is to discuss the episode.

If there are complaints about the episode, fair game. Complaints with actual content and insights are similarly actual discussion points.

Comments like “I can’t believe anyone is still watching this” has nothing to do with the episode and makes me question why the person clicked the link on a thread that was clearly labled as being an episode discussion on the show in question.

Say what you will, but I really want to see this film. Who can I email to make sure it gets made?

Perhaps there should be two threads: TBBT: Episode discussion and TBBT: How it has jumped the shark yet again like it does every week. I don’t know why anybody still watches it thread.

If we aren’t careful, we’ll end up with as rules as the Game of Thrones threads, and nobody wants that! :stuck_out_tongue:

As far as the show jumping the shark and moving toward cancellation, this article came out discussing that very topic. They seem to think it is looking like cancellation may be very soon despite the three year pickup.

Without the ratings they won’t keep the show going with those salaries. They’ve shown some ratings weakness lately, but they’ve been very high over the show’s run so far, and they are very high in syndicated reruns also. Next season could bring the ratings back up which would easily allow it to finish out three years. It’s not like CBS has a lot to replace it with. However, the need to maintain the ratings to justify the cost is the reason I think they’ll go for the full shark jump including over-hyping some event. So the show may survive for a while, but never really be as good again.

Except that here is the comment about last weeks ratings:

Spring doldrums hit Thursday primetime hard, with big audience drops for most primetime offerings, including CBS’ “Big Bang Theory,” which had its weakest night in recent memory. Of course, even a historically weak “Big Bang Theory” was still able to lead Thursday in all measures and carry CBS to comfortable primetime wins.

It’s ratings are only low when compared to itself.

Here are the actual numbers:

Time Net Show 18-49 rating 18-49 Share Viewers Live+SD (million)
8:00PM CBS The Big Bang Theory 3.8 13 14.42
FOX Hell’s Kitchen 1.5 5 4.30
NBC Hollywood Game Night 0.9 3 3.18
CW The Vampire Diaries 0.7 2 1.50
ABC Grey’s Anatomy -R 0.7 2 3.19

More people were watching BBT than all the other networks combined. I don’t think there is any way to stretch that to being in ratings trouble.

Well, actually, a ░egra Modelo." I find it amusing that me, you, and silenus all were paying attention to what beer they were drinking in that scene. I spotted the Sierra Nevada right away, but was trying to figure out whether that was a Negra Modelo or something else Leonard was drinking. I suppose it’s somewhat sad that I knew what beers those were just from the back of the bottle. (Although the Modelo was a guess until I saw it from the side. I found it somewhat unexpected.)
