The Big Bang Theory, Season 8, Episode 15 (February 19, 2015) -- "The Comic Book Store Regeneration"

Realistically, why would she do that? I would think that she and Howard would want to live there, since it’s much bigger than their apartment.

Though I could see them possibly taking Stuart on as a lodger, at reduced rent until he gets on his feet, since that’s likely what Mrs. Wolowitz would have wanted.

I don’t think Bernadette would have anything to do with that house. If Howard lived there, he would regress so fast it would cause a sonic boom. She’s been trying to wean him away from his past since they met. Moving into that house would be extremely contraindicated.

I’d actually completely forgotten that Carol Ann Susi died, and so I didn’t see that coming: as soon as I saw the look on Howard’s face I knew what it was, and for a split second I wondered why they’d kill his mother off. Then I remembered. :frowning:

I thought it was handled well, too.

She went to join Lorenzo Music and Ralph James in that Big TV in the Sky.

I thought it was weird that they made a point of repeatedly hitting the “Let It Go” line but didn’t go for a Frozen joke.

Doesn’t Bernadette yell at Howard with Mrs. Wolowitz’s voice? I assumed Bernadette would eventually become Mrs. Wolowitz.

I don’t follow the show very closely and didn’t know this was the special episode, but thought they handled it well.

The experiments were funny. Amy & Sheldon should be messing with the others more often, as the intellectually superior beings they are.

You must hang out with a different class of geeks than I do. It most certainly is a geek show. If the frequent comic book, zombie, and Firefly references don’t prove that, the Derrick Storm graphic novel and miniseries that Marvel Comics published a while back surely does.

i liked that they went with a serious, touching reaction to debbie’s passing. i’m sure hijinks will follow in the next few episodes. but it was nice to see them all share good memories and not go with the very tired fat jokes of the last few seasons.

The toast at the end was nice. It wasn’t until after I had watched it did I realize it wasn’t just a toast from the characters to Mrs. Wolowitz, but also from the cast and crew to Carol Ann Cusi. Compliments to the writers for that.

Presuming that Howard is the main heir to Debbie’s estate I can’t see Bernadette being happy living in a shrine to her MIL. She and Howard would have to “exorcise” the place. And that would entail a LOT of “letting go” by Howard. With what they could get for it, they might be better off getting their own place with some of the furniture from the old house. Well, the writers have at least the rest of the season to work that out.

I don’t recall another time where both Penny and Leonard let loose heavy snark at Amy. And Amy deserved it, even though before she hooked up with this crowd, she had no experience with having friends. She should have known you don’t use your friends as test subjects. It’s a reminder to us all that socially, she’s a lot more like Sheldon than she is like the rest of the gang.

It’s good the comic book store is open again, but Stuart still has to make it work. For a while I’ve thought that with his art school education and his comic book knowledge, what he needs is a nicely lit drawing table, some paper, and drawing implements to start drawing his own comics.

And yet again, Raj is pretty much a spear carrier in this episode. I wish they’d use him as more than Fez from That 70s show. Maybe more Emily, if her (the actress who plays her, that is) schedule permits?

Wait. You can’t use your friends as unknowing test subjects? Uh-oh.

You realize, of course, that this makes Howard and Stuart co-owners of the comic book shop? THAT oughta be interesting!

Oh yeah, Howard and Bernadette move into the house, and fight over the decor, and he has trouble “doing it” in his Mother’s old room. . . no way the writers are going to give up that goldmine. And just when you think they are going to divorce over the stress of the whole thing, Bernie calls Howard from upstairs in a voice so very like his Mom’s that he just smiles, relaxes into his chair, and begins to treat Bernie like the queen of the castle, just as he did his Mother.

Next week’s episode title has “ShAmy snuggles” written all over it!

!!!

Do you think maybe Sheldon gets hold of some oxytocin?

[/spoiler]

Funnily enough, a re-run this week was the introduction of Amy Farrah Fowler. It was awesome to see her first appearance, and contrast it with how she’s changed and grown. Mayim Bialik has done an amazing job with this character.

Or, Mrs. Wolowitz changed her will and left the house to Stuart since Howard and Bernadette have their own life now.

Then they can mine Howard’s smoldering resentment of Stuart for another 4 seasons.

In the preview of next week’s episode, I believe I caught a glimpse of Emily. So you may get your wish soon.

Sheldon: When my father died, I had no friends.

HELLO? Sheldon’s sister Missy showed up to have some papers sign in relation to their father’s estate. He had clearly known the gang for several years, and how long does a will from a Texan redneck take in probate?

I think there was a mistake in continuity there. Big one.

Another good episode. Especially encouraging, this was the second episode in a row where Sheldon has been dialed back enough to still be funny and not be a complete asshole.

Having all the characters at each other’s throats when someone gets terrible news is a long time sitcom staple and was executed pretty well here. I imagine the tribute to the actress will continue next week when they deal with the fall out of Howard’s Mom dying

One one minor plot point in a episode 6-7 years ago and its a big continuity break?
And besides, how good of friends could Leonard, Howard and Raj have been. I don’t think they realized that Sheldon had a sister before they met in Sheldon’s office.

And I did get the impression from other episodes that Sheldon’s father had died while he was living at home.

there are always on going issues when you have multiple heirs. you need signatures for all sorts of things from real estate to back accounts. there could be a trust for sheldon and his siblings.

on rewatch, i’m glad they didn’t have some sort of comic/darwin event for the passing. a nice gentle “didn’t wake up” was very nice and dignified.

I wasn’t really surprised though since the actor had actually died.

Would you like a snowcone?

It’s mango-caterpillar.
