TBBT - 3/12/2015 "The Leftover Thermalization"

In anticipation of tonight’s episode.

From the previews:

“Tension arises when a magazine fails to mention Leonard in an article about the paper he co-wrote with Sheldon, and a blackout at Mrs. Wolowitz’s home leads to a final family dinner in her honor.”

As I pointed out in last weeks thread.

From previews, it looks like Mrs Wolowitz’s Freezer has 20 lbs of bacon in it

I doubt she’d have left a brisket uneaten.

Yeah, but brisket is kosher!

WAG: Sheldon deliberately left Leonard’s name off when he submitted it to the publishers.

Paper is proven wrong, saving Leonard the embarrassment.

… And another happy ending, and the two are friends again. Brilliant!

And Amy is left out of the “Happy Ending”, once again.

They seemed to me to be more catatonic than anything else.

I’ll bet the brisket was good, though. I’d have wanted leftovers to bring home.

I’m glad they didn’t go all sappy with this episode - I was half-dreading Howard would launch into soliloquies about each item as he pulled it from the freezer. And I didn’t like Sheldon reverting to a jerk again.

Oddly enough, the thing that had me wanting to yell at the TV was Howard standing in front of the open freezer - SHUT THE DOOR AND GO BUY SOME ICE!!! We lost power for 48 hours during a hurricane a few years back, and we didn’t lose any food because we did just that. But then they wouldn’t have a story, would they?

You don’t want to do that; refreezing not only removes moisture, it creates ice crystals in the fiber of the meat that can compromise taste and texture.

I can’t find a cite but I remember reading somewhere that statistically Scientists with last names deep in the alphabet often have lesser careers because most Scientific papers only print the first couple of names alphabetically and they end up always as part of the et al and thus don’t get credit for their accomplishments as easily.

I think the course correction since the winter break to make the characters more human continues. Sure Sheldon let Leonard get screwed but at least he understood it was wrong. Old Sheldon would have not even realized it was a mistake.

I knew this wouldn’t be a “Very Special Episode”. Marketing departments make those preview packages. I bet the show creators cringed as much as we did when they saw that ad last week.

Yeah, I’ve heard that. BUT THE FOOD HADN’T THAWED YET!!!

<deep cleansing breaths>

It’s just TV… It’s just TV… It’s just TV…

Stuart said the power went out overnight, so by the time Howard arrived at the house, the food had been thawing for perhaps twelve hours.

So they cooked all that food on, what, a gas grill in the back yard? And nobody thought to get ice and rush it all back home to their own fridges?

Not sure I’m liking the new menschy Sheldon. The autistic-spectrum one was more interesting.

Gas stove in the kitchen- my wife actually went “Hey! How are they cooking the food?” and then we watched a little closer (in the scene when Raj makes no promises), and noticed a fairly bright blue gas flame going under the pot he was stirring.

And by the looks of the kitchen, the stove and oven were either the pilot light kind, or the kind that you can light with a match. (modern ones have some kind of solenoid that prevents this, as my wife and I found out in an ice storm when our power went out :frowning: )

As for the “new” Sheldon, he’s more similar to the first season or two Sheldon. Somewhere after the first season or so, they Aspergered him up. I think now they realized that having him be so bizarre really limits what they can do without making it entirely the Weird Sheldon show.

But no vent fan running. Not so bright.

Why would they need a vent fan to be running? Nothing they cooked was particularly smoky.

If you have a good freezer, tightly sealed and already full of frozen food, it would take considerably longer than 12 hours for it to thaw completely. At least, that’s my experience.
