It’ll have to be endurance. I’ll still be seeing you every other Friday night. Soon, I’ll have boobs of steel!
As we’re getting a little closer to Labor Day, it’s time to find out who has serious interest in attending and who just might show up. I have some definite ideas of places to hold the festivities, but they are places that will need notice that a group of us are coming in.
The plans now are tentatively as follows:
Friday Night, August 29th
Meet and Greet at (possibly) Nodding Head
This is a pretty good bar with good food and drink. You don’t have to be a drinker or over 21 to join us.
Saturday, August 30th
Possibility of Dim Sum in Chinatown
Possibility of some of the culture that Philly has to offer
Or whatever else you’d like to do
Saturday Night, August 30th
Dinner at Fado
Again, a great bar/restaurant. The fare is an interesting take on Irish food and the time the Philly Dopers were there, we had a blast. We also managed to stay there for four or five hours. It’ll be fun, I guarantee.
Sunday, August 31st
Brunch at The Verrain/Pisces Suite
Not to worry, Verrain will be doing the cooking. I’ll just try to provide scintillating conversation.
Interest in celebratin’ for at least part of the weekend
TruePisces
Verrain
Frank #2
the WeirdNorths
The AirmanRobyns
Lindyhopper
ResIpsaLoquitor
Meros
tdc & moi
RTFirefly
So, who else wants to join us for the fun?
I’m in!
Me too.
Glad to see the numbers going up! I know I talked about it with a few people while I was at Dave’s this weekend and there were several people who seemed interested.
My plan is to know, at least for Saturday night’s dinner, how many people are planning to attend by the end of July so I can call and give a rough estimate reservation at Fado.
Also, our apartment is first come, first served insofar as floor space is concerned. We have a twin sized bed in the computer room, a couch, a feather mattress that can be thrown down, and a queen sized airmattress. If more people want to bring sleeping bags, there’s even more floor space. If people like to/can sleep in chairs, we have a popasan and a old orange chair. The place is a two bedroom apartment (though, mine and Verrain’s bedroom will probably only house us unless someone makes us a really good offer. ;)) I’m not exactly certain how many people the place would fit, but it’s not a small amount. I’m sure there would also be people that are willing to share hotel rooms. There are several in the area, though I’m not sure of pricing. Transportation is relatively easy, with the Septa Busses and Subways. If you think of anything else you’d like to know about, just ask and I’ll find out.
So, anyone else want to come in for my last DopeFest as a single woman?
I would like to come. Not only have I not yet met any Dopers, I’ve never been to Philly! (Presuming the airport doesn’t count)
I’d like to join you for drinks or dinner, and maybe some of those cultural events you mentioned (Lord knows I could use some culture! Where’s my acidophilus?). So count me for dinner Sat. at least.
Great! It’ll be great to meet you. We usually do dinners down here every other Friday (this week it’s on Saturday for Dim Sum) as well, if you can ever make it down for that.
But you’re definitely on the list for Saturday night.
TP I know this is the wrong thread but it’s looking like my department head decided to can the convention on me. I might be joining y’all after all
Woo-hoo!
(Though, you know that thread did get bumped today to? I think it might be around here somewhere…)
Y’know I’m interested - I gotta measure my wheelchair and see about transportation, but I’ll commit in pencil.
Pencil’s good enough for me at the moment. It’ll be great to see you again. And Fado is ground level, so there won’t be any problems there. Heck, a lot of Philly is ground level!
BTW, I’ll definitely need something couch or bed height to sleep on! I figured you knew that, but no sense in leaving anything unsaid, y’know?
Just about every SEPTA service I can think of is wheelchair accessable (the exception being the really old buses, but they’re not that common anymore.)
I’m interested.
Glad thread was bumped.
Attempting to come up with witty things to say but is 4 am.
Yeah, I’ve already told some of the people that might be staying here that the spare bed is yours and they’ll just have to grab space somewhere else.
The only exceptions I can think of are the subway stations near the apartment. Neither the 40th Street and 34th Street stations on the blue line nor the 37th or 36th Street stations on the green line have elevators from the street to the platform. But, knowing Cosmo, she just needs to smile at one of our vehicle-bound Dopers and they’ll be more than happy to drive her where we need to go.
(Oh, Meros, I’m thinking of you! :D)
Doc, I didn’t think there was a time when you couldn’t be witty.
My world has now collapsed around me to find this not to be true.
[sub]Ok, so I’m incredibly giddy because it’s 4am. Sue me. :D)[/sub]
What the heck is it with all the unexpected compliments on the SDMB lately?
It’s like there’s a covert plot or something.
I keep expecting to open my door and find Dopers waiting to stage an intervention or possibly an assortment of Dopettes waiting to stage a violation of certain laws.
Plot? What plot?
[sub]Quick, guys, he’s catching on! Time to put Plan B into action![/sub]
Cosmo, I’ll gladly give you rides wherever we need to go. The only questions I need to ask are
a)Do you have a manual chair that can be collapsed sufficiently to fit in the trunk of my Sentra?
and so I know how to arrange the plethora of crap I keep in my car
b) Do you need any kind of assistance transferring? (I have quite a bit of experience in this area so if you do I promise not to hurt you)
We’re gonna have to back out of this.
Dave’s family is having a Labor Day picnic, as various Cartwrights are scattering to the four winds for college, the military, etc. And since his grandmother is quite elderly, Dave wants to visit her as often as possible.
Sorry.
