As I’ve mentioned here a couple of times, there’s going to be a Philly Fest here on Labor Day weekend. The reason? Well, it’s two-fold. One is that Philly’s a big city, dammit, with as much to do as NYC and Chicago. So we deserve a big Fest! The second is a bit more selfish. Verrain and I are getting married two weeks after that (September 13th), and we have a lot of friends from the Boards that we’d like to celebrate with, but we’re too broke to invite them all to the wedding. So… the Philly Fest over Labor Day weekend.
My initial plan is to have it be a weekend long thing. An informal get together on Friday night, checking out cool stuff around Philly during the day on Saturday, the big Dinner-then-bar on Saturday night, and quite possibly something here in my apartment Sunday morning. With it being Labor Day weekend, there’s even the possibility for something happening Sunday afternoon.
Everything is still in the planning stages, but I need to know what to plan for. So, who’s interested in coming that weekend? There’s plenty of places to stay in the City, and there’s some floor space left in the Piscean Palace (Or Verrain’s Verranda, whichever you prefer). I’m looking forward to having a good time with as many Dopers as can possibly make it.
Every Labor Day the Chadds Ford winery has a big jazz festival, wine tasting, party. http://www.chaddsford.com/welcome/index.htm I also happen to be friends with the winemaker.
There is usually some kind of concert event at Penn’s Landing for Labor Day as well.
If we were to attend, it would likely be for Saturday dinner only. We’re only an hour away and can offer sleeping space for those that would be interested.
Well, you know I’m there for the wedding. I’m in the thing, so I can’t rightly skip out on that, now can I?
Anyhoo, if it’s at all possible (and I will move heaven and earth to make it so), I’ll be there for the Dopefest as well. Whatever’s going on. So there.
I’m a possibility. I’ll be in Philly for the summer studying for the bar, and I have no idea when I’m off to the Air Force. If I’m not in basic training, I’ll be there.

So, who else is in for a weekend of Labor Day fun with a bunch of Dopers? (Keep in mind, just 'cause you say you’re interested now doesn’t commit you to come. I’m just trying to get an idea if I need to find restaurants that fit 5 people or restaurants that fit 50. Besides, this is the last chance many of you will have to see me before I become Mrs. Verrain! :D)
Well, moi and I are certainly interested. I won’t have the weekend off, but I will have Labor Day itself off. So, I can do things at night, much like always.
So, sadly, I tossed the recipt from Fado, so I don’t know our waitresses name.
Hopefully, we’ll have another chance to find out her name next Friday. I’ll see what I can do when I call.
tdc, anything you can join in will be great. Since I’m not sure of who’s interested yet, I haven’t made any plans, but there will definitely be a dinner somewhere (Fado if we’re lucky!) on Saturday night.
Here I go and get all dramatic about the lack of RT action at all things MAD (Chance’s bash, the AVAM trip), and then I meander into this oh-so local thread and find out you might be making an appearance? I feel so foolish. :o
So glad to find ya hangin’ out in this thread, RT. I sincerely let out a disappointed “awwwww!” when tdc said you weren’t making it to the Chance’s. But my mood’s perked up since.
