A few months ago a raptor smashed my windshield. Recently, as I’ve mentioned, birds have flown into the house on two occasions. And now…
The front window has been thumped twice by a bird or birds today. It/they probably saw its/their reflection and thought it was attacking another bird. The thing is, the front window (and the window around the corner from it) are fairly large, and the glass seems awfully thin. We’re concerned that if this keeps up we’ll wind up with a broken window.
Not that that would be terrible; I’ve wanted to replace them with nice, efficient double-paned windows. But I’d rather not spend the money.
A co-worker’s friend heard a tremendous thump on her window one day. She looked out on her patio and saw a dark form hunched up in one of the lawn chairs. She assumed it was some kind of prowler and called her husband, afraid that someone had tried to break in the house was loitering out in the backyard.
When she when to the window to get a better description, she discovered that the guy was actually a dazed bald eagle that had run into the window when it was trying to scoop a koi out of their fish pond.
There is a wood pecker that tries to get into my office window several times a day (although I don’t recall seeing it today.) It lands on the sill and raps its beak against the pane.
