The Black Phone (2022) film

If you like horror movies, then this is a good one. There are a few jumps scares, but generally it’s a bit of a slow grind. The movie is set in 1978 Denver, Colorado when there is a streak of missing boys, that the police are having no luck in solving. There some supernatural themes here as well, as the primary plot point is an old disconnected black phone that previous victims use to communicate.

The movie stars a relatively newcomer, 15 year old, Mason Thames. Thames does a great job as the protagonist opposite Ethan Hawke’s evil twisted psychotic mad man.

It’s got an 83% on rotten tomatoes, and I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Saw this one opening weekend. It was… okay. Really liked the directing, cinematography, and feel of the film but thought the story really didn’t offer much new. It was a lot of recycled bits and pieces of past suspense movies. Such as the twist near the end where they were at the wrong house lifted right out of Silence of the Lambs.
I think young folk will like it if they haven’t seen something like this before but as someone who’s seen a crapload of movies over 40+ years I felt like I had seen it before.

It’s on my “movies to see” list still, but have not seen it yet.
