The Brawl Thread

Well, I’m conflicted. Do I want to be “that guy”, or not?

Oh well. I’ll do it.

Yahtzee Crowshaw reviewed Brawl. Here it is.

I’ll be on the WFC (boy, that sounds like a wrestling thing) for most of the evening if anyone wants to challenge me.

Awesome. I get home about 630 PST.

He had some good points, especially about the repetitiveness of Subspace Emissary, and I do find it kind of annoying to have to unlock a third of the available characters through time-consuming efforts, but he was also unfair in a few places. Button-mashing does work better in Brawl, and the Smash series in general, because you don’t have incredibly complicated combo moves that basically rape the other player. In Tekken or Soul Calibur or Mortal Kombat, pressing a bunch of buttons will pretty much just get you a bunch of basic moves plus a few combos by luck. In Smash, pressing a bunch of buttons will get you most of the moves that exist. However, button-mashing cannot beat skill unless it is lucky. Wave-dashing was supposedly nerfed, but precise, well-timed use of shielding, for example, can pretty much neutralize anyone doing random crap. I really don’t see what he means about the camera being zoomed out too far; that’s really only much of an issue on Hyrule Temple and New Pork City. Smash stages are simply much larger than the arenas available in other fighting games.

I’m online now! Come one, come all!

Give me a few minutes, need to finish my dinner.

I’m online, but when I try and enter your Brawl code, it says it’s incorrect.

Ah crap, I mistyped it earlier in the thread.

MY ACTUAL BRAWL CODE: 3780-8736-6952

Thanks for the fun guys! Even if I did lose most of the matches.

Hehehe, that was fun!

Phew! Good brawlin’! Even if you guys did kill my Nana…

I played a few matches last night on someone else’s Wii.
I don’t get what the fuss is about with this game.

If you didn’t enjoy it, you didn’t enjoy it. There’s no way to explain it, really.

Me, I don’t get what all the fuss is about with the Grand Theft Auto series, but to each his own.
