I have two mugs at work. One is from Shoppers World Brampton, a sister mall to a mall that I used to work at. My other mug is from the Society for American Archaeology that I got at a conference a few years ago.
For the commute: Blue stainless steel adult sippy cup
At the office: White with multi-sized, colored dots (orange, purple, green, and red) simply stating, “THANKS!” in a garish purple font. It’s ugly and currently used for the tea I hide in my desk drawer. Our coffee service was revoked. At my old job I had a cream colored mug with textured bricks and a bright green lizard. I think someone stole it.
At home: 2 pottery thumb mugs. They have no handle, only an indentation for the thumb. I also have a large (24 oz?) pottery beer mug.
At work, I use plastic cups - and YES, I recycle.
At home, my favourite coffee mug is white, with an orange line at the edge. It sports a picture of Ronald Koeman, former captain of the Dutch national football team. It is a mug out of the Official European Championships 1988 Collection - yes, the one we WON
Great player, great mug.
I have an aqua colored coffee cup purchased from food 4 less for $1.50 four years ago. Funny thing is, it’s probably been used thousands of times more than all my expensive dishes at home…
Mung? Oh, mug!
Work: Largely Literary’s Kerouac.
Home: I have several. I used to work as a buyer for a novelty manufacturer (LaidBack), and we had a line of anti-motivational posters and mugs which we got samples of. “There is no I in Team, but there is one in Kiss my Ass.” “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of management.” “That which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but it usually kills you.”
My fave lately is a mug given to me by my best buddy Nan before I moved. It is a beautiful, tall, handmade one with goats painted on the outside, and a ceramic goat peering up from the inside. Damn, I really miss her. I miss my goats, too. Maybe I oughta use a mug with less baggage attached…
The all-purpose fave is a thick coffee shop style with the Schwab’s logo. Schwab’s is the only real business on Beale St. in Memphis. Ya can still get monkey socks there, even!
At work I have the cup I designed for the company’s 10th anniversary. Since we changed our name in July, I suppose I should make some new ones. I also have a I THINK THEREFORE I AM (overqualified to work here) cup from when I worked for the city.
At home, I have Tom’s Pots Alaska Folk Festival Mugs #15 –26 inclusive.
I’ve been using the same mug for years. It’s white on the outside, light blue on the inside and has a poem about my name and its meaning.
Home: lovely ceramic mug with a wrap-around picture of Joel, Tom Servo, and Crow on the Satellite of Love.
Travel: ordinary plastic mug with lid that says “Lone Star Ice Co”, bought at a convenience store (to hold my, um, coffee) en route to a Robert Plant concert in Houston during a visit to my brother years ago.
work: Mr. Bump and Mr. Strong from the mr. Men series (a childhood favourite)
Home: a “Nobodys Ugly after 2am” mug. Tasteless, but since i broke my Smarties mug I have been inconsolable.
I have a huge black mug, painted to look like granite, with “Avapro” emblazoned on on both sides in orange. Gotta love drug companies. I also have a tall mug that I painted, with a blue flower front and center, with green vines trailing off the sides and meeting in the back of the mug, under the handle. There is a red, wavy border around the top rim, with yellow and blue dots, a blue wavy border around the bottom, with yellow dots, and the handle is yellow, with “Anjali’s Mug” painted on it in black. (It looks nicer than it sounds, IMNSHO). I also have a plastic insulated mug from my old college-prep school that all the students received for Christmas one year (good use of that tuition, folks), and a “Welcome to the class of 2004 from the U of Chicago Alumni Association” mug I got (free) at orientation here. I use that one to hold Q-tips.
I have a great big two-cup mug (I’m too lazy to walk to the coffee machine twice) that has a big glamorous cityscape with skyscrapers on it. It’s emblazoned with, “SECAUCUS: MY KIND OF TOWN.”
I find this hilarious: Secaucus, NJ, is a tiny little hick town outside Manhattan with no building over three stories tall. I lived there when I first moved to the NY area and got the hell out as soon as I could afford to . . .
The work cup (Since I was told my cup painted to look like it was a full beer mug was “inappropriate”…) has the Fox News Channel logo on it, with the slogan, “We Report, You Decide…Easy Decision”
Work: Big ole 28oz Wile E. Coyote mug from the WB store, says"Yes, you may refer to me as Super Genius"
Home: Big blue glaze and terra cotta mug from a car dealership, but its big enough to hold a full can (prepared) of tomato soup.
Scott
My mug is dark blue with a gold rim with Prozac written in gold.
My mom, an RN, conned a drug rep out of it a few years ago.
It always gets a giggle from my coworkers.
At work: The giant 16 oz fat-bottom Tim Horton’s mug. It has, of course, the Tim Horton’s logo on it - english on one side, french on the other, which is a source of endless amusement to my American co-workers.
At home: Most often, one of a set of 4 16 oz ceramic mugs, cafe style (taller, skinnier mugs as opposed to short fat ones) that have bugs painted on them. They’re cute.
At work, I have a black mug, trimmed in gold with my company’s original logo, also in gold (we’ve been reorganized 3 times–we got lots of logos). I keep my pens in it, because I noticed that the gold trim was fading due to continued washings. I have a plastic electric blue mug, with sippy top, with my company’s 2d logo on it. I don’t have the third logo on a mug, but I do have it on a slinky.
At work I also have a white mug that my boss at my former job gave me when I came here. On one side, it has a table covered with diet crap–diet drinks, pills, etc. On the other side it has a big blonde struggling to get into her tights, thinking about a strawberry shake and some cookies. It says, “I’d rather be pigging out.” I really like that.
At home I have an oversized light blue mug with unicorns on both sides that I got in college 14(!) years ago, and a white mug with a painting of the ocean and a seagull. It used to say “Hampton Bays, New York” on it, but that washed off.
I never use my WNYC (NPR station) mug–it’s just not big enough.
Got mine when I became a SD chat co-host while at AOL. GF has used it, but not me. I prefer the insulated DeKalb mugs which were a Chistmas present a few years back, they’re the perfect size for soup. Can’t get DeKalb stuff from DeKalb anymore, my sister who sent them had to go up to Rockford.
At work a big Cartman mug. At home, too many mugs to mention. ::painful confession time:: I don’t actually drink coffe, though.
It’s a mug from my former employer – quite nice, white with blue trim and writing. Company logo on one side, motto on the other:
Anticipating,
Understanding,
Providing.
They had to let half the full-time staff go recently (including me) – couldn’t continue making payroll. They didn’t Anticipate the market for their product, Understand what the customers wanted, or Provide a new version for the last 2 years.
So much for mottos.
