The Bugatti Veyron's not so hot

As Robot Arm stated, the cars in the game are far nicer than any car I can ever hope to own, unless I win the lottery or become the interest/plaything of a famous bikini model or something…

The cars in game that I have actually driven are;
Dodge Neon (Dodge SRT-4 in the game)
Saturn Ion
Saturn Sky
Saturn Astra (Vauxhall Astra ingame)
Honda Civic
Mazda 3
Ford Focus
Ford Fiesta
Chevy Cobalt
Dodge Ram
Jeep Grand Cherokee
VW GTI
VW Jetta (Bora ingame)
Toyota Yaris 3 door

And yes, the ingame cars behave like their real world counterparts

That thing weighs almost as much as the minivan I learned to drive in.

ETA: Is there any point to that sort of top speed? Is the Autobahn smooth enough for it? I would think that hitting a bump at 240 mph would send a car flying. You can corner and accelerate fast on public roads, but I don’t see any point to extreme top speeds in a road car.

One other difference between the GT series on the playstation and Forza on the 360 is that there is no damage modeling in the GT series (at least not in GT 1-4), not sure if GT5 has damage modeling, Forza has three levels of damage modeling…

Cosmetic; basically, paint gets scuffed and headlights/taillights get busted, the car’s performance is unaffected

Limited; cars acquire dents and can have parts knocked off

Simulation; same as limited, plus you get tire wear and fuel consumption to deal with, as the cars take damage, it can affect handling and performance, cars can be damaged to the point that they stop running, damage can be repaired by pitting in

Also, in Forza, any damage you acquire in the race is deducted from your winnings, as you have to pay to get the car repaired

Also, once you pass season two or three, you gain the ability to “hire a Driver” for a race, basically you let the AI drive the car for you, you gain no experience points, and your car doesn’t “level up”, plus, the hired driver takes 50% of the race winnings, but the option is there

The point is simply to be able to do it, just like the reason for climbing Mount Everest. As for the speed, it is restricted to a top speed of 233 miles per hour unless it is stopped and a key inserted into a slot that unlocks the rest of the speed. Once the car is set up (the spoiler retracts and the suspension drops the car about 1.5 inches) any turn of the steering wheel greater than about 15 degrees or tap of the brake immediately raises the spoiler (which acts as an air brake) and locks out the top speed. You can’t top it out on the Autobahn, even if you want to. In fact, the only place that I know of where you can hit the top speed safely is VW’s test track, Ehra-Lessien. That’s where it’s been tested for top speed, and that’s where the owners are taken for their top speed runs.

Does the xbox still only allow the official shitty xbox racing wheel? I have a badass g27 but last I looked it won’t even work with the xbox. Works with a ps3 though.

Moved Cafe Society --> the Game Room, because I assume that’s what y’all are talking about.

I wonder - when racing your ‘bugattis’ around your ‘tracks’, did you actually use your feet for anything? Seems a big part of REAL WORLD car control is how well you manage the accelerator, brake and clutch - and you DON’T do it with your thumbs.

You’ll forgive me if I take your conclusions about real cars that are based on a video game with just a pinch of salt.

Sure, go ahead, after all, I do as well…

Until I actually put seat-time behind the wheel of the real thing, I’ll reserve my judgement on how good or bad the vehicle is

No, I don’t have a wheel for the game, and the one I want is bloody expensive (the one with the clutch pedal and gearshift lever) and is out of the realm of affordability at the moment

so, within the simulation/game environment of the game world is where my impressions of these vehicles will stay

So this stuff all sounds like Forza is more “game-like” than GT. That’s not really what I’m looking for. If I do buy one of these things, I just want to be able to drive the cars and have it feel as much like the real thing as possible. I don’t care about points or “careers” or winning races or anything like that. I want the equivalent of X-Plane for cars: a real driving simulator without trying to make it into a competition.

There are multiple drive modes in Forza 3…

Career Mode; competitive races, you gain “experience points” and at each new level, the game rewards you with a new car for free, only downside is if you don’t like the car you win, it’s only worth $100 in “credits” if you want to sell it, as your car gains levels, you get discounts on upgrade parts

Career mode also has the option for realistic damage modeling and tire wear, your car can actually get so thrashed that it stops running, when you finish a race, any damage your car has incurred is deducted from the winnings to pay for repairs

Free Play is more of a “sandbox” mode, you can choose “Quick Race”, just what it sounds like, or “Hot Lap” which is just you and the track, take as long or as short a drive as you want

the downside to Free Play is that the damage modeling and tire wear is turned off, so it’s not as realistic as Career mode

Oh and one thing I thought was funny…
I had just got done putting the final touches on my Porsche 911, an AWD drivetrain and Limited Slip Diff., I shifted the traction profile to 90% rear 10% front, as to keep as much of the 911’s classic rear-engine-rear-drive characteristics as possible, I may lower the ratios to 95% rear 5% front, give the fronts just enough grip to pull the car out of some nasty switchbacks…
I looked up at the “Performance Index” number, a number that gives a rough rating as to it’s performance level in that class and discovered that it’s PI number was…

“666”

COOL! :), I’m keeping the mods as they are now…

Oh, BTW, just to give you a rough idea of how far I’ve upgraded some of my cars…
the letter grades are as follows;
