The Bull Moose Party

As is our custom, we went to my sister’s house for T-day, then prepared our own dinner today (Sunday).

The day has been a snowy one and mild. As I was preparing some stuffing, I thought I would add some fresh sage, so went over to the window box to cut some. As I looked out at the falling snow, my eyes came to rest on a huge bull moose, grazing his way along the street.

Now you may think this would be a common sight in Anchorage, but bull moose are notoriously reclusive and we’ve never seen one here in our neighborhood, only cows and calves in even the most bitter weather. He was good sized, probably at about 1200 pounds, with a rack spreading outwards of 4 feet or more, and his back dusted with snow. A regal beast and something else to be thankful for.

I hope all your weekends were good ones.

Interesting story. (Yes, at first I thought it was going to be about Teddy Roosevelt).
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving weekend.

Some day I would love to visit Alaska. I know that a huge bull moose is something I will probably never see.
Didja take a picture for us?

See? We can say “nice rack” about a guy.

My BIL told me a story about a moose he encountered in Alaska.

He and his buddy drove into a parking lot and parked at a spot on the edge. My BIL said he tried to open the door but it would only open a little ways – it kept hitting something. He assumed it was a snowbank, but when he looked out the window he saw he was hitting the side of a LARGE bull moose! It just stood there until it finally spied a cow in the trees, whereupon it moseyed away. MY BIL and his friend just sat there to make sure the moose had gone for a piece of tail and not to get some distance to try and run at them. Bizarre.
