The Bundys are at it again.

I swear, I’ve seen a lot of stuff in my life… but that… was… AWESOME.

Martyrs by definition have to be killed. He is possibly an inspiration to them, but he was already as I understand it.

Bundy’s are all in jail.
The only real martyr here is David Fry; the last man standing even though he couldn’t score a doobie for DAYS!

Why is everyone talking about that state legislator’s boobies?!?

:stuck_out_tongue:

No: the word can also apply to people who have suffered in other ways. Someone who was unfairly imprisoned or beaten, or who has had their property seized, can also be seen as a martyr of tyranny. It’s one of those words with some slip-slop in its common usage.

Remember, though, that Fry was with the last holdouts because the car he was originally riding out of in kicked him out for being annoying. It was probably full of Mormons, who had no weed on them, and he just would not stop whining about needing a doob. Would be my guess.

Really, no one else liked the guy. That is not the kind of person that becomes a martyr or an inspiration.

Frank, don’t wish rape on other posters.

No warning issued.

So…the last of the losers has surrendered after a bizarre rant live on Youtube, and Bundy’s been arrested.

Lots of entertainment.

Here’s the complaint against Cliven Bundy.

From a news story:

Now that the Final Four have surrendered, I wonder how long they will hold the others, or if they will start to let them out.

Ummm. I would think all of them are going to be held for a number of years. Why would they just let them out? It’s not like they are hostages. They are in jail for good reason.

The stated reason for denying bail was because of the ongoing occupation. They’ve released at least one so They may release a few more of the lower level guys.

Oh. Bail. Gotcha.

Now *that’s *kind of funny.

Considering their proven track record of denying that the law or the government has any authority over them, it seems like it’d be a slam dunk for the prosecutor to assert that they’re a major flight risk and that bail should be denied.

A martyr is anyone who suffers voluntarily for a cause. If you want the definition to exclude those who suffer for stupid, selfish, unjust causes founded in bigotry and paranoia, I’m for you, but it’ll require some work. There’s nothing preventing awful deluded people from calling themselves martyrs, heroes, or any other aggrandizing term. And they will probably prefer those labels to the alternatives you suggest.

The problem is you can’t ever take those labels away because the justifications for them exist only in the awful peoples’ heads: they know they are right because they’ve been told so, and they know they are martyrs because they are too good to be allowed to be even slightly unhappy in a just world.

Not to mention the fact that they all demonstrated willingness if not downright eagerness to drop everything and hole up in the middle of nowhere indefinitely.

I haven’t kept close tabs on this thread, so apologies if this has been posted already. Anti-government icon Cliven Bundy has requested a court-appointed defense attorney.

His entire business model is dependent on the government giving him stuff for free. Why change horses midstream?

I can’t imagine any court-appointed lawyer willing to advance the legal arguments that Bundy’s likely to insist on. I expect (even hope!) he’ll end up with a crowd-funded nutjob attorney.

Well, of course, why would someone who openly denies the legitimacy of the court’s and the government’s authority be a flight risk?!
