This Jon Ritzheimer is a crazy motherfucker. He will kill somebody some day. Guaranteed.
I’m guessing you failed a lot of reading comprehension tests when you were a kid. Did you miss the part where I said that if it becomes a hostage situation (i.e. the kids are not free to leave and would be harmed by further efforts to pressure these guys to surrender), then different rules of engagement would apply? No, we should not starve and freeze the kids to the point of physical harm, just as the police sniper is not allowed to shoot through one hostage in order to kill a bad guy who’s holding a whole group at gunpoint.
If these perps make it clear that the kids will starve/freeze right along with them, then they become a bargaining chip and we have to consider their safety.
Should there be hostages involved, extra caution in the deployment of lethal force is in order. Government agents have been known to kill children in order to rescue them. As long as the yahoos have no hostages and don’t shoot at anybody, I am content to let this drag on indefinitely. The yahoos and the feds can stay out there making each other feel meaningful forever. At this stage, bloodshed initiated by either side would be just to make a statement. Those are statements we don’t need to hear.
You seemed to be saying that we should withhold food until the children were suffering from malnutrition, which implies that you we should withhold food until the point were children were suffering health effects.
If that’s not what you meant then fine. In any case, let’s not hijack this thread with what is apparently only a hypothetical situation, since they apparently do not have any children there.
MSNBC is currently reporting that the “protestors” are bringing in heavy equipment. I’m not sure what they mean by “heavy equipment”.
It’s earth moving equipment, apparently. It’s federal equipment that they hot-wired or found keys for or something.
Oh terrific. And here I was worried that they might not be able to fuck up the environmentally sensitive land badly enough.
I’ll bet that FWS is just keeping a running tally of the direct and indirect costs associated with these antics and will present everyone on site an invoice as they are leaving.
Damn, you got all that out of one snark? My bullshit is amazingly information-dense!
I just call shenanigans on the idea of allowing kids to freeze or starve to death just because their idiot parents put them in that position. “Their parents put them in that position, so fuck em’” is not the way anyone should be thinking.
I’m sure that’s not what Euphonious Polemic was suggesting, but just sayin’.
And at the same time, one of the biggest reasons Ruby Ridge and Waco were such utter charlie foxtrots was because of the presence and deaths of children. AFAIC, we–that is, the government that serves us–have an obligation to protect any hypothetical children from harm, regardless of how fucking stupid their parents are.
It’s a tactical move. They pull heavy equipment in front of the building so no one with binoculars or a telephoto lens can see them sucking each other’s cocks.
Brokeback Bird Sanctuary.
Are you… damaged in some way? I’m trying to figure out how a normally functioning adult could interpret either of those posts in this way - to say nothing of the idea that, if a criminal puts a kid in harms way, it’s totally okay just to mow down the little moppet, because hey, it’s all the criminal’s fault, right?
Seriously, that’s one of the most morally bankrupt things I’ve ever read on this site. You should legitimately be ashamed of yourself for posting it.
Despite all the discussion of the issue of what do if children are involved, I haven’t seen any confirmation that any children were ever at the Refuge. The only reference to this I can find was a couple of days ago by sympathizer Maureen Peltier, who doesn’t seem to be the most reliable source on anything.
There does seem to be a large amount of hearsay and bullshit flying around about this, with virtually no confirmed information.
Tell that to Equipoise.

Did you choose your user name because it matched your personality? Or is it what your older sisters (Rudepup and Snarkpup) have always called you?
Do you have a cite for this? If someone is making minimum wage, or thereabouts, they’re not likely to much in taxable income as a retiree.
A federal wildlife refuge is not a “service” in any normal sense of the word.
So now there’s a minimum amount of tax to be paid to qualify?
And the refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Which is one of the uses of the word.
There are others. You should look them up.
I think this all started with me posting that there were rumors and then speculating that it would complicate things if it were true. By doing so I practically derailed the thread. :o
Well there are childish actors involved but it is fairly well documented that they have all reached the age of majority at this point.
You’re a literal-minded asshole, aren’t you? I was responding to the notion that the building was a waste of taxpayer money. Why didn’t you call him out for his not being specific? Maybe I should have said that the Visitor’s Center belongs to the American people (shall I list all their names?) and can be used by anyone, American or not, who wants to visit the place. It’s not a waste of anyone’s money.
