the BURN turkey BURN ! mmp

One can’t drink all day unless one starts in the morning.

It was a turkey, not a rooster. :stuck_out_tongue:
This evening has been debacle.
Gonna go out for a walk & then I need to pack (almost) everything.

Howdy Y’all! I laundered, got prep stuff done for cookin’, made a trip to the Pubic Sto’ (I agree Butters no way do I want to go to the grocery sto’ the day before Turkey Day!), and made sup. Thus I am a tahrd bear this evenin’. Tomorrow will be gettin’ stuff ready for the big feast. Rah.

All you who are takin’ off for parts other than where you are tomorrow, have a great trip and be safe. We want y’all back here safe and sound. I have spoken. So Mote It Be!

ETA: Count me in the I love turkey group. I can eat it anytime. YUM!

I guess I was thinking about one of the Canes’ main TV advertisers:wink:

Many Jews go to Chinese restaurants on Christmas.
They’ve been a going concern for 6,000 years, so they must know something.

A Jewish guy and a Chinese guy play checkers in the park. One day, the Chinese guy mentions what a long history China has. The Jewish guy mentions the above 6,000 years. The Chinese guy responds, “Oh yeah? What did you eat?”

I accidentally left a piece of mail in daughter’s SUV this weekend. After work today, she popped by to return it. It was a flying trip - throw the mail and run. By the time I got out to nab the envelope, she had turned around in the yard, and her headlights were pointing to the neighbors’ pups in their back yard.

Daughter: “(squeeee!) Doggies!”
Me: “Oh I forgot you haven’t met. The fat lab is Vegas, and the slimmer lab/shepherd is Flex.”
Daughter: “OMG, I love them! Who are the neighbors?”

Um… Bob? Maybe? And Mrs Bob? Vegas’ and Flex’ parents. They seem nice.

Daughter: “So I’m definitely your kid.”

Evening all. The rain has finally started, but looks like most of it is west and north of here. Hopefully dry out for the 400-mile drive tomorrow. Need to pack, but that can be done before bedtime and will take me about 5 minutes (lots and lots of practice over the years).

If I don’t have a chance before, all y’all have a great holiday, be safe, and eat turkey (or whatever you choose to eat).

We are going to eat with neighbors and I assume turkey is on the menu- that and a shitload of sweet taters. Since I like to have
leftovers, on Firday I am cooking a small butterball turkey roast and making dressing to get us through the weekend.

Also on Firday I am going to start the process of putting up my new Christmas tree and unloading the china cabinet and reload it with all the nifty Christmas dishes I got on major markdown last year. I may even leave the Christmas dishes in there a while. Plus I have Christmas towels, tablecloths and I don’t even know what all I have. It will be like Christmas just seeing what I have for Christmas.

I don’t think I mentioned but me and hubs are going to Jawja the 12th through the 17th. I do NOT want to go but hubs asked me to go. We are flying straight to ATL and renting a car. I chose midday flights so we can take Buddy to his vet for boarding and is in the opposite direction from the airport. Barring any accidents we should have time to drop him off/pick him up each way and same days. I took an extra day off when we get back just to decompress and thaw out. The day we leave is hubs BD. I need to ask his son or daughter to pick up a BD cake.

I do not want to go and we have discussed if the weather is too cold or icy we shan’t go, money be damned. Off to catch up the new season of Poldark.

Safe travels **MetalMouse ** and everyone else traveling. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

My house is full of kids and grandkids. I snuck off after dinner and KP duty. I’m in my bedroom hiding (:))
The Siamese cats are so mad. They ran up and got under my bed. Meeko has decided she can come out. She gave me a walk by hug and is in the window seat. Bear isn’t so forgiving. Mid-daughters Chihuahuas are yappy as ever.

Chinese.

Have a safe trip MetalMouse.

heh, my shopping trip was interesting …ok my aunt and I refuse to pay anything over 2 bucks for a 10-pound bag of spuds… And this Hispanic chain thats normally expensive for anything but, meat fruits and veggies had them for 1.50 a bag and had coke 3 for 9 and Shasta 2 for 6 (which to me is expensive for Shasta but its the going rate these days im told) which i only buy cause they’ve got flavored varieties

So I take uber there which is also geting more expensive over time and my god what a mess… let’s just say this isn’t even a middle-class grocery store but it took an hour for maybe 20 minutes of shopping because they moved things around and it was crowded and name brand things were expensive … I mean 8 bucks for a claim jumper pumpkin pie? i could get one ta the restaurant its self for cheaper than that
and this lady was trying to use an ebt card that probably wasn’t hers and it wasn’t working and she didn’t even know the most basic information about the card and was shouting unkind things about Latinos/

And people behind her and me were responding with unkinder things in Spanish about “los negros” in a lower voice so she was told to come bacl later when things are fixed … I was using aunts phone and it didnt shut off properly and the uber app kills her battery … so i barley made it home
only thing that was ok was the cashier was adorably cute and had just turned 18 so she was all smiles even to the loudmouth… I forgot i had aunts card so when the pie went over i had to get the cheaper one … and used self serve for the first time …it was pretty good but it was slow and i thought I lost the cash I put into it …luckily they had someone who knew how to reset it … and didn’t mind i stole a bag (15 cents a bag !) for some of the soda

Came home aunt wasn’t happy it took so long and ever more unhappy when her phone was dead … I just can’t win ever …

Rainy and windy here. Some parts of town have power outages, but those are being worked on. My power is fine for now. I had a difficult time convincing the Princess that no, she does not really want to go outside.

yeah we have one of those "bomb cyclones"going the west coast through made it windy as hell for here yesterday and since we possibly live in the windiest place in so cal that’s something …uber driver on the way to the store says it was up to 90 mph and took out trees in some areas of our valley and the mountains were getting snow the channel he listened to news sayd they closed the surfing spots until further notice … which i said they can keep the snow …

Safe trip, Metalmouse!

We brine ours. It yields a Lot of drippings, which make the easiest gravy in the world. Roubail atx with a bit of the fat, or hell sometimes I just stir in some flour as I boil it. I think the sheer volume of drippings means they’re not too salty.

Our worst were the ones where we didn’t host. We were in the process of moving from NC to the DC area. I was on a project in the midwest, and my husband was still in NC. So I flew to NC instead of DC that weekend. We arranged to meet a friend for a dinner at a nice hotel in town but she had to bail at the last minute. So we had a dinner in a hotel, alone, with no friends or family. Not awful, just depressing. The other one wasn’t as bad; I was commuting to NY every week for work, and had been sick a bit that fall, so we invited ourselves to join relatives an hour or so away.

The funniest was our first Thanksgiving. That year - and almost every year since - we’ve had an open Thanksgiving where we invite everyone who has no better place to go. Mid-afternoon, we heard shouting from the neighbors across the hall. They popped by to say hi a bit later, and said that a burner on their stove - an electric stove, with ceramic coils - had basically blown up and was now missing a chunk of the ceramic. We all commiserated. Then an hour later, the identical thing happened to us - loud BANG, sparks, and everyone jumping out of their skins. Luckily the rest of the stove worked fine.

2 turkeys this year. We’re looking at a crowd of 14, which is about as big as we’ve ever hosted, and I was afraid with only one turkey, we wouldn’t have enough leftovers :). I wanted to get a turkey breast but when I looked for the organic ones at Whole Foods, a whole turkey was cheaper than the breast. That’s OK; they’re both in the brine now and tomorrow evening I’ll roast one. That way I can make gravy from that one earlier in the day, so I don’t have to scramble to make the gravy while we’re trying to get everything else done last minute.

Gotta set up a long folding table in the living room as our dining table only seats 8-10. The stuffing is made (the veggie / fruit / bacon part; we’ll assemble the bread and broth Thursday). We’ll need at least 2 folding tables, one for desserts and one for beverages, maybe a third for additional dinner serving space. It’s going to be busy and crowded and fun.

Sounds fun, Mama Zappa, wish I could come.

As for me, I’m heading the other direction…in about 90 seconds. Have fun, all, & remember to use [del]coasters[/del] cold alcohol (don’t need to dilute it with ice that way).

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 79 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for this afternoon, maybe. Today is get stuff ready for the big feast day. I do not need to go over to the church house to deal with stuff like trash cans. Two members host a community like Turkey Day feast every year. They provide the main stuff and others bring sides and desserts. Anywho, since they are doin’ this tomorrow, they shall deal with gettin’ the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash cans down to where they go for pickup on Firday, since tomorrow, the usual pickup day, is a holiday. So I do not need to leave da cave today. YAY! Sup shall be sammiches or forage.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

**shady **- how do you get potatoes so cheap? A good deal around here is $2.50 for 5# of red-skinned or Yukon gold, and occasionally a 10# bag of russets might go for $3.00, but rarely. And, frankly, I don’t think 50¢/lb is out of line.

It’s a drizzly morning, but the rain is supposed to blow out early and stay away till maybe late Saturday. Eggs are boiled and peeled, and when I get home, I’ll make the 2 kinds of fillings. I’ll also build a couple of sweet potato souffles, and I’m thinking it’ll be a pizza night. We shall see…

Happy Wednesday!!

Morning all. Thanks for all the good wishes on travel, it’s 98% Interstate, only choke point is going through Nashville (I’ll try to hit it after 9am rush hour). Packed, house is clean (or at least as clean as it ever gets), last bills for the month paid and all is well.

Everyone have a great Holiday and if I can get near a computer this week, I’m take the Dope’s password with me and will let you know how things are going.

All y’all take care.
